Hi everyone
I want to be free: Sorry to hear about your problems, I really feel for you, sorry I cant be more helpful.
Im back now from a few days away, and my laptop is back with me, I lent it to my DD to do some college work on, and I cant seem to post from my kindle (I will ask DD how to do it cos Im sure its me not being able to see how!!)
So back home and in budget, the few days away were budgeted for and I was sooo careful with what I spent, so Im really pleased. Anyway I will start reading from the beginning again to catch up with everyone and will post tomorrow.

Hi all :j
I want to be free So sorry to hear about your home situation, it seems your father is being pretty selfish. I think you are dealing with it in the best way possible, to ignore his bad behaviour & make contingency plans in case the worst happens. At least your mum has you for support & I should think she's really grateful for that. Great news on the debt busting - I too thought we would never be out of debt (see my sig) but we are. You will get there. If you need to vent or need support then we are all here. Stay strong.
Challenge: Oops forgot this one yesterday! Don't smoke & rarely drink either, so it has to be giving up unhealthy snacks..Mostly healthy snacks, fruit & a couple of low sugar oatmeal ginger biscuits, just have to stop myself eating all 5 as they come sealed in a packet of 5. Willpower!! (non existent)
No Spend Challenge: Do like the sound of this but do my shopping on Tuesday, I could prep by shopping at the weekend but hate going then & never do if humanly possible to avoid....hmm will have to ponder. Will make an exception for Tuesday & try for a 6 day week..On this today, no cash spent.
Organise. Start as you mean to go on. Know the contents of your fridge, freezer and cupboards. Plan your meals around them. Cook from scratch. Don't buy anything you can make unless cost /time taken dictates otherwise. If you are new to turtle challenges or still have full cupboards you could try living from the cupboards. Lunch from stores, supper LO lasagne. Got out some more bits from freezer no 3, some meat for pooches plus a ham joint for us for tomorrow.
Regular budget items should be set by 1st October. If you don't know how much you are spending on food or petrol, now is the time to find out. Question every purchase - need or want? No purchases today.
No Spend Days. Aim for 20 (high target) or 15 (low). Am aiming for 15 but hoping for more. Now 5/15.
Improvise. Make do and mend with a creative twist. think of a substitute ingredient, how to make an old/broken piece of furniture last a little longer. Realised that wooden item I was standing on to paint the garage - used to belong to DD when she was a child - could be repainted & repurposed for my craft stuff..
Exercise Four times a week at least (20 minutes minimum but can be done 10 minutes at a time). Get outside in daylight as often as possible. Out again this morning as another day without rain, so that means outside jobs... Did another bit of pruning, took bits up the back. Beginning to hate this particular shrub, which is all over the garden. Then another coat of paint onto single garage. Rubbed down front door ready for a coat of paint, once I can decide what colour. Then lunch, back out again, yet more painting. My fault, I decanted into my small-ish paint kettle what I thought was a small amount. Ended up painting some fence, a gate, & all the bits of the sun room I could reach. Plus Henry-d out the hairy outside porch where the hairy pooch sleeps, I am amazed he has any coat left. Also combed both sled dogs & a bit of the collie - he is very anxious atm as I accidentally threw his rugby ball up on the top of the sunroom, and playing fetch is his whole reason for living. I have to get the damn thing down somehow!
Christmas Nothing today
Banned Will only be chippys normally with the odd takeaway planned for a celebration etc. No takeaways today.
Extra Income and Extra time Lots of stuff done today but am feeling it now. Signed up for a PO survey so should get a voucher for that sometime.

Hugs I want to be free. Such a difficult situation, but sadly all too common.
On a practical note, if it's not already been done, get your mother to a good solicitor asap. If she's been verbally abused and taken for granted for years, she may not feel strong enough to fight. Do not take his word on what she is entitled to. Get as good a settlement as possible (may even be entitled to a portion of his retirement pension if he has a private one) and then look at what you can afford.
You/ your mother may be able to get a tiny house or flat or somewhere that needs doing up (funds for additional repairs can be found later, when you are more settled or you can tackle simple things yourself). Even if it's rented, make it yours.
Try to think of this as a new beginning, not an ending. You and your mother will be getting away from the drama and abuse and can have a happy and settled life.

I want to be free seconding the legal advice. Your mum will be entitled to some of the joint assets, and you can't trust him to be fair. If you have a work EAP they often offer a free legal service. Likewise if you or your parents belonged to an organisation with a benevolent fund. Worth checking into all avenues - some solicitors May also offer a free initial consultation. Once you know what the legal situation is, you can plan. Please don't let your mum go into a free mediated settlement if there is s history of abuse. She may be eligible for financial support, a share of any joint assets (including the house even if her name is not on the mortgage) and a share of any private pensions.
Spendy day yesterday, birthday for eldest and lunch with DH, nice day until I got involved in a craft project in the evening and DH got upset that I was ignoring him (I was, but not intentionally, when I am concentrating I honestly don't notice anyone around me). He's going through a rocky patch and I hate the feeling of walking on eggshells.

Hope it’s ok to join this party late, even if a little late.
Challenge: I aim to lose 3lbs this month. It will be good to be accountable here!
Organise: Will take stock take of food in cupboards, fridge and freezer. This should help with my MFW challenge too.
Budget Items: I do know my expenditure for October, but do need to figure out those regular annual costs and fees which like to surprise me every year!
15 No Spend Days: I think I have had 6 so far this month if not, it must be close.
Improvise: Would like to investigate I can blacken my faded in places, black suede ankle boots and make them last until spring.
Exercise: Aim to complete 5 cycling sportives in October, four of which must be free (won two in a competition) and one of which must be self-guided and in a new location. Have completed one - four to go.
Don't Be A Martyr For Christmas: Booked to celebrate Christmas at Mum’s the weekend before Christmas, savings on flights etc came to approximately £700! Have prepared list of Christmas gifts, will aim to purchase them this month
Banned Treats:. Choosing not to ban anything as this can sometimes backfire on me!
Extra Income: Aim to advertise all saleable items this month. This will have the added benefit of decluttering? Yeh!
Report Daily: Will do.

I was listening to an old interview this morning with Maya Angelou and I thought what she said was lovely & I thought I would share;
I have had many rainbows in my clouds.
There is an African American song,"when it look like the sun wasn't gonna shine anymore,God put a rainbow in the clouds", I have had so many rainbows in my clouds, and one of the things I do, when I step up on stage and one of the things I do when I go to teach my classes, when i go to direct a movie; I bring everyone who has ever been kind to me, with me. Black,White, Asian, Spanish-Speaking, Native American, gay , straight, I say, "come with me, I am going on the stage, come with me, I need you now" . Long dead. So I don't ever feel I have no help. I have had rainbows in my clouds, and the thing to do, it seems to me, is to prepare yourself, so that you can be a rainbow in somebody else's cloud. . Someone who may not look like you, somebody who may not call God the same name you do, if they call God at all. Somebody who may not eat the same dishes, prepared the way you do, somebody who may not dance your dances, somebody who may not speak your language. Be a blessing to somebody.
I just thought this was lovely, and I thought a few of you might need a rainbow today :heart2:0
