thanks. on CPUbenchmark, shpws the clock speed of what i have (4300) @ 3.8Ghz and the 8370E @ 3.3Ghz. this mean its slightly slower?it does show Turbo speed upto 4ghz on the 4300 and 4.3ghx on the 8370E.

i also take it its the motherboard (maybe the power supply) thats stopping the 8370 (without the E) as this compares better Ghz?

It's the Motherboard, as indicated in the linked articles.

Ahh yes. I'm slowlynunderstanding it all. In your opinion would it be worth the upgrade? I've just seen on hukd 3tb Toshiba p300 for £63 which my boy has his eyes on instead of ssd and another 60odd for 8gb stick.
    Sorry for the questions.

    Sorry for the questions.

More RAM and a larger HDD will make scant difference.

As suggested earlier, you can look for a used 8370e/8320e to keep costs down.
Dependent on the game, you are looking at CPU or GPU or both.
Since the upgrade path is limited, you should spend as little as possible
Does he want to play at higher resolutions? Are the frame rates too low? Once you understand the issue, you can focus on the best solution to the problem. Rather than just throwing money at it.

If a more powerful CPU is needed, perhaps you can look at a new Motherboard and recycle the GPU.
An SSD will make the machine snappier in general use.
Since the upgrade path is limited, you should spend as little as possible.

So you need to look for reviews of the intended CPU to see if it will provide an improvement to the kind of games you are considering.
Similarly, if it is an improved GPU that is more suitable.

You need to put the money where it will make the most difference. A larger HDD won't do that. Better to fit a SSD as the main drive and keep the HDD attached as secondary storage.
    I picked up a Samsung EVO 860 500GB for around £67.

    Just chipping in.

I've a FX8350 (amazon price around £75) and I use a Corsair H60 "AiO" cooler (Amazon price around £60) and it never gets over 60c under full load and is quiet.

I'd suggest checking out your local CEX for as much cheapish DDR3 ram (not the best but good enough to get a good deal on generic ram) as the board can handle.

As well as a good quality SSD.

Useful to know that it can work.
I think CEX does an 8 GB module for £25.

    Thank you.
  • Ok so the ram installed is 8gb ddr3 pc12800 800mhz. Cex have 8gb pc12800 but 1600mhz. Mb will take max 1333 so read it'll perform at it's max but is it ok to have both 800 and 1600?
