Hello
My boy wants to look into upgrading his pc.
This is the spec he has at the moment:
http://vi.raptor.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemDescV4&item=282895721237&category=179&pm=1&ds=0&t=1530717109000&ver=0
I've looked into ram and have 1 free slot for another 8gb stick of ddr3, 1tb hdd is already near full with games so looking at 1tb ssd to clone everything the free this up or 2 to 3 tb hdd.
One thing that we notice when lokomg at some of the new games is the processor is a little under spec. Found out its am3+ socket amd fx4300. Can u upgrade to any of the same socket or have to stick to amd? Can anyone recommend a good upgrade in cpu without having to change the motherboard.
Thanks guys.

You obviously have to stick to AMD, but there's quite a large range that should fit that socket. Depends what you want to pay really.

Maybe the FX-8350? Has nearly twice the performance of the one you have, for not too much money.
You can check the benchmark performance on this site.

Thank you very much for replying. I'm sure I seen that on overclockers for around £115 I think. Will this be a straight swap and no need to change over the power supply?0 -
I would not clone anything over. Would use the new SSD as the Boot drive and keep the HDD as storage.
Of course Amazon are undercutting eBuyer for the FX 8350 with the Wraith cooler...by £1.
But you can go for the top of the 125 watt range, FX 8370 with Wraith cooler, for around the same price as the FX 8350; https://www.amazon.de/AMD-FD8370FRHKHBX-Processor-Wraith-Kühler/dp/B01798X7D2/ref=pd_sbs_147_2
Around £92 plus delivery.

I'll leave this here, I find it very useful every time I need to upgrade a machine or if I am building brand new and I need to check compatibilities:

Spot on, use the SSD as a boot drive and put (or leave) the games on the mechanical drive. Plenty of memory as well, 8GB for games playing should be fine.0 -
Fantastic feedback guys given me a clear idea what to do next and keep my boy happy.0

With the cloning I've seen videos and been told that u can only clone the whole hdd over but I was thinking just using it to boot from. What's the easiest way to get the windows 10 over if you can only clone the whole hdd.0 -

Just clean install Windows 10 to the SSD. It will auto-activate.

Possibly clone it and then uninstall and reinstall the games on the HDD. Make sure that the MB supports any new CPU and that the PSU has adequate power. Use the pcpartpicker link given earlier as you can assemble a PC using the parts you've already got and it'll give suggestions for a power supply size.0 -

Not sure why you suggested this. Not a good idea.

Possibly better to change the Motherboard if you want to upgrade the CPU, according to this; https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=164599.00
