Cloned plates and a parking fine

Hi guys apologies in advance for the essay you’re about to read

I have just had a letter through from UKPC about a parking charge from 12/07/18 from a car park I can categorically say I was not at and have never been at in my lifetime. I have texts from my partner at the same time and date confirming I was in my parents house looking after it while they where on holiday, however I know this wouldn’t really be useful as any evidence.

Upon closer inspection of the pictures issued by the parking company I have noticed that the screws that hold the number plate to the car pictured are in different places than on the number plate of my car, also the quality isn’t the best but I can’t see any postcode or company name on the pictures on either the front or rear.

Also 3 days after the parking offence was commited I was pulled by police in a matrix van on my way home from shopping as they told me they had been briefed that morning that the car was reportedly on false plates, after a talk with me and checking the vin number they confirmed that my car was legit and not stolen or on false plates. At the time I didn’t think anything of it as police pull me quite frequently due to the type of car being stolen often and my young age.

I’m just wondering if the following points would be enough evidence if it went to court and what’s the likelihood of the company folding and backing down if I provide this information? I can post pictures up for you to see if that would help anyone get a better insight.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Report this to the Police, they may want to try and fob you off saying it is a civil matter, stand your ground and insist they give you a crime reference number, you should be able to do this on the phone calling 101. Then forward this to the PPC stating it is not your car in the photo.

They can't give a crime ref, only an Incident number.

You need to stop any action, by complaining to the DVLA and BPA, urgently, also sending a Rectification Notice to UKPC's Data Protection Officer.

Your VRN data needs a flag on it at the DVLA to note the cloned plate issue.

Don't just wait to be sued.

Thanks for the quick replies and advice.

As I am in work and was stressed at the time I forgot to mention in original post this is now a notice to hirer as the yellow sticker that was attached to the car wa never seen by me (as it wasn’t my car) and they are now telling me it will be forwarded to a debt recovery agency in 42 days.

I will get on to the DVLA and the police first thing tomorrow morning, once again thank you for advice.

UKPC NTHirers are easy to win (100% slam dunk win) anyway, even if it was your car!

If you have an android based phone such as a samsung, this link will/should take you to the location history https://maps.google.com/locationhistory
Do as above, and get an incident number, and then inform the parking company of whats happened, they should cancel, but probably wont as, most PPCs follow an automated process, although this shoudnt be anything to worry about.

From the information you have, do you know the location of this car park? this information could be useful if you have a genuine cloned plate car.
Do you know who owns the land the PPC operates on? this could be useful to raise a further complaint with the agents who took on the parking company

Unfortunately the phone I had at the time is now broke so any location info has now been lost. We have CCTV on the house but it has now recorded over the memory as it was over 2 months ago. I do know the location and had my partner go over before to try and get the relevant phone number or info regarding CCTV, but they are residential apartments so there is no reception on the premises or contact number / website online, so I’m struggling to find out who has access to the CCTV, however I’m still trying to obtain this information.

I would of thought with the VIN number being clearly visible on the wind screen the company would have checked the VIN before issuing the ticket or even included it on my ticket, as that would be easy confirmation that it wasn’t my car, surely this should be a legal requirement to avoid things like this occurring.

The location history is not stored on the device, it uploads to your google account/apple icloud account ( or both)

No, they wouldn't do that as it's not worth their while. They just want money.

Please stop worrying about CCTV and do as I advised in my post earlier.

I used to give this advice for Android phones. But Las week, I discovered an error on my Time line so I simply changed the time on the app. So it can easily be tampered with, regrettably.
