I've just thought of another ridiculous current decor trend, enormous clocks!
They seem to be everywhere, especially on the wall in tiny new build living rooms. I can only imagine the people that buy them are eventually driven insane by deafening ticking.0 -
I confess I have only ever read one TP book, "Wyrd Sisters" but it almost made me incontinent with laughter. I had to keep stopping to mop my eyes so I could read further. I do have just about everything !!!! Francis has ever written, though and what is life without the Lord of the Rings? I am sorry, the films are a travesty, imho.
Sorry for the completely off-topic post; I do have an addition, though: "Feature walls" which look as if they have been papered with shiny, metallic gift-wrap, often deep purple with silver, gold or red motifs... In the absence of a vomit icon, this will have to do -:p0 -
I love the three witches, Greebo turning human still has me wishing I'd bought some Tena lady....
My decorating choices are suspect - shortly to be glue gunning small japanese thingies to porch walls for example - but people who practice shabby chic are much more suspect; painitng things badly and them sanding them down equally badly deserves a very harsh word....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -

I have to admit to a love of a shop called Homesense, which if you don't have one near you is really just TKMaxx with none of the clothes, just homewares. However, part of my love comes from playing the 'where in God's name would you put that?!?!?' game as I walk around. My personal favourites include the decorative skulls covered in crystals, enormous multicolour 'Murano' glass bowls that have no practical use whatsoever, large gold Buddhas (or bits of Buddhas, like hands, feet and heads, often covered in crystals or glass mosaics), powder pink velvet sofas with sharp crystal buttons and terrifyingly massive clocks, clocks so big that you can watch each second of your life pass whilst wondering why on earth you spent so much money on a massive clock. You wonder where this stuff goes but then you have a poke around Rightmove …0 -
Oh, for god's sake, MSE, the author's name is (short for Richard) Francis. Give me strength.0

My mum and I went to the Ideal Home Exhibition last year and apart from the odd decent exhibit there were a few of stalls selling this tat. I wandered around in awe, looking at the terrible pictures of champagne bottles spewing glitter and wondering why anyone would buy this stuff. Tomorrow's landfill!
I know everyone has different tastes but I find it a shame that people spend their hard earned on this mass produced tat when there are loads of little craft fairs and local galleries up and down the country where you can pick up some really decent and not insanely priced artworks (prints, paintings, photography)0 -
Money can buy a great deal but it cannot buy taste. Art appreciation courses, yes but not taste. It is how we who cannot afford diddly are able to feel superior to those who can.0

To those wondering where all the books are - haven't you heard of Kindles? Also I like a feature wall, if it is either seriously expensive wallpaper and/or would just be too loud if it was over all 4 walls. My daughter has CALM letters in blue on one shelf which she focuses on when meditating or being mindful and personally I think that is excellent.
Yes we can all take the pi*s out of current fashion.0 -
I did add Feature walls a day or so ago.
I must say, in the past 2 years of searching, the sheer variety of things I'd get rid of sharpish amazes me. I have realised how intolerant I am.
Not keen on shiny kitchens either, partly because I just dislike them and partly because they'd not remain very shiny with me and mine. And I don't much like the current fashion of using public lavatory tiles in houses.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -

You don't need to tell the world you like gin, but you do need to tell the world you like smashed avocados? :rotfl:0
