Iphone stopped working,. Can I get the seller to repair / replace it or refund me.
I bought an iPhone for my granddaughters birthday two years ago. I paid £400 for it from a company on eBay. Recently the phone stopped working. My granddaughter was browsing the Internet when it all of a sudden went dead. I read in consumer rights that I have to prove that the phone was faulty when I bought it in order to get the seller to do anything about it. But what if the phone didn't have a fault to start with and developed a fault over time. How do I go about making a case to get this repaired or replaced. Its a lot of money to pay for a phone that just lasts two years.

Was this a new phone or used? Apple give only a one year warranty on the iPhone. Any retailer warranty isn't going to be 2 years, unless you bought it from JL.
You need to refer to the warranty terms of your contract with the vendor, but your statutory rights after 6 months require you to prove a pre-existing fault at the time of purchase, which means you have to obtain a report showing that, at your expense. Without that, your chance of any claim against the retailer succeeding is zero.
I'd suggest that first of all you find out what the problem is: 'dead' doesn't really tell us much. Will it hold charge? It could just be a dead battery. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
2 years of being dropped , used in the rain so it's got damp inside etc .
It could be screen failure or battery failureEx forum ambassador

A phone that cost £400 back then (presumably an SE, 6 or 6S) can be bought second-hand with a years warranty for around £100 or so today, so depending on how much it is going to cost to repair it may be better getting a replacement instead.
iPhones get upgraded with newer models every year so lose a lot of their value each time a better model appears. Unfortunately that's the way it is with modern tech...0 -

Xiaomi phones are a fraction of the price , decent phones and are currently in talks with uk networks to supply them direct.

I suggest you read https://www.apple.com/uk/legal/statutory-warranty/ - your rights in the UK go well beyond the 1 year 'warranty' that Apple offer (which they promote at https://www.apple.com/uk/legal/warranty/products/uk-ireland-universal-warranty.html)
It's also worth checking the exact date you purchased the device as it might be slightly easier to get a repair if its just under 2 years rather than just over.0 -

Yet people still buy them.
All image over substance these days I guess.

You're always ready to ride to the defence of Apple without adding anything useful.
The fact that Apple will only warrant their products for half the period of other, often cheaper manufacturers is hardly pointless but pretty pertinent on a consumer website.0 -
