  • AFAIK Credit Card companies do not cover purchases via Ebay.

Not sure whether its because in reality the CC company has fulfilled their obligations (ie giving money to paypal) or because credit card protection doesn't cover financial services transactions.

Either way the only protection you might have would be from paypal (And its not like pople have had problems with them!!) [insert sarcasm smiley here]

As to whether the company's legit or not I have no idea.

Paypal basically draw cash from your credit card, so as far as the credit card company is concerned they have no goods to cover, they have simply loaned you cash - if you lose it via a con, it's your fault. The only comeback you have is with paypal, for which I wish you good luck!

Looking at the above post, wouldn't google checkout in that case offer more protection as it would still allow a chargeback to be made.

Any clue as to where these outlets can be found? :)

Call into your local Sharp's and ask, security will be able to tell you. Im suprised nobody has posted about it before on here!

I don't think I've ever seen a local local Sharps. Do you mean a dedicated Sharp reseller - like a Sony Shop -or just a general seller that happens to sell Sharp products, like Currys /Comet ?

The Sharp outlets are I would imagine much like the one near me, based in the factory buildings. They use a conference room on Friday's, Saturday's and Sunday's and sell New and Graded (Usually grade A) stock S&S opening times are 10 til 3, Friday is (I think) 3pm til 7pm.

So just to clarify, its not a high street setup its operated by Sharp Electronics UK from a room within the Sharp Electronics UK production factory. the outlet I go to stocks several different types of LCD from 26" to 65" Microwave ovens, hifi systems, fax machines, video/dvd combo's and last week the addition of a 160 Freeview PVR. Prices are very reasonable, for example the 65" LCD which is the ultimate boys toy was grade A and would have made you £3,500 lighter

geees, just read a post made somewhere else - run from a flat?

    Hi all,

I have just had a very long conversation with 'Amy'. She called me back following me sending her an email with quite a few questions on it.

She couldn't give me answers there and then to all the questions but has promised to get her manager, who it is confirmed is Mr Vasukas(sp?), to reply to me as soon as he gets back with as comprehensive a reply as possible.

To paraphrase, she understands people's concerns and why it might look like a scam (she has seen comment on forums). She assured me that the stock would be arriving with them from the 20th and would be dispatched in stages straight away. She told me they did have storage capacity for so many units (but was unable to give me details of exactly where). She also stated that there will be enough units for all orders to be fulfilled.

She did state this was very much a one-time offer to help get the business off the ground, but they are very surprised with the responses and their business has been somewhat crippled over the last few days with people calling/emailing/chasing their order. She stated that they have seen an upsurge in sales of other products due to the publicity of this offer so far which is good - however she did say they were very disappointed with some comments on forums and some of the allegations made by certain individuals (although again we discussed why people would be speculating on this offer and why some of the comments might be made). She did also say that the units were undamaged and it is only damaged to the boxes and the missing manual that were problematic on all orders. They will fulfil their returns policy to anyone who is dissatisfied with their purchase.

Saying that they have space for the units, however, she did confirm the operation is virtually run from a flat, she is working herself from home, and that she is calling and speaking to people inbetween looking after her child. She apologises if anyone is delayed in getting responses (she is the one that is mainly responding to people's enquiries), but she doesn't want to seem unprofessional by having a baby in the background whilst she is talking to customers. Also she doesn't want to neglect her child.

She stated she wished there was a way that she could prove that the offer was genuine - people will see this for themselves when units are delivered. I did ask why there was a delay between payment and delivery and she couldn't fully answer this and it's hopeful the response to this will be in Mr Vasukas's email later.

One thing that is concerning, and she asked me to convey this message to the forum, is that whilst they are so busy some people may be getting through to an answerphone when calling. They have over the course of the last few days had some very abusive and 'horrible' messages left. This is causing distress to them and their workers and she has asked this stops. To be fair, I don't think there are any grounds for any kind of abusive messages left, whether or not you believe this to be a scam (nothing is prtoven either way so far).

Whilst the answers don't go a great length to the reassurance that I was hoping I could pass on to the forum, it is positive that she took the time to talk as frankly as she could to me. I don't think the conversation proves anything either way and we aren't much clearer, but she has put forward somewhat of their side so far and hopefully the email I receive later will answer some of the questions she couldn't.

Not sure whether someone's noticed this but the television is covered by a 30day money back guarantee BUT it'll take over 28 days for the TV to be delivered.... "Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery."

By the time it is delivered, you'll probably struggle to get the money back under the guarantee period.

I'm inclined in purchasing the 46" SHARP LCD for £619.99 but don't want to be stung by this .catch'.

Only an opinion, but they have stopped taking money (which would seem very odd for a scam!) also they are answering the telephone after stopping taking money. If they've taken the last of the money and it is a scam I would expect them to run.
