Your bank (Smile) should be able to refund the amount back to you. Direct Debit is secure and the banks have some sort of arrangement with companies taking the money out.... so Smile should easily refund you, and hold off the payment to the merchant.

Agreeede you money may be covered under the direct debit indemity thing. However as Paypal are not going to be able to get the money from musthave100 they will come back to you and try and take the money again. Thus if you have sucess with the bank and get your money back then immediately cancel your direct debit to paypal and if you can close your account(with paypal). Also change the phone number they have for you as they will phone for the money. I believe however they can not blacklist you or anything.

The downside of this is if you regularly sell things on ebay and people pay using paypal then you lose this facility.

My bank told me same if I claimed through idemiity paypal ask money back It looks after such big scam nothing happened. No police involved for fraud or any one received money back. It means consumer is the looser. Banks make money by commission from retailer & retailer run away with money. I think bank should not release money until goods received. very disappointment for all.

Totally agree. paypal have washed there hands of the matter, the police don't seem to be interested, trading standards/consumer direct/watchdog, no replies to my emails. the ISIS accreditation is a joke, basically you pay these folk £125 a year and they say your buisness is legit. and when it is found to be a scam then they say ohh sorry we shall take them off our accredited list.

So it would seem that all you need to do to scam people is set up website (easy peesey) get muppets like me to buy cut price christmas pressies using paypal, transfer your money from paypal to a bank, withdraw it and go and buy a villa in Spain.

And don't worry about getting caught, noone is interested!!

    Regards

  • this scam must have ran into 10's of thousands of pounds. As usual t seems that if you rob a bank you get 7 years and rob the public you will if unlucky get a mention on watchdog.

God what is it with some people!!!

Some people have been scammed out of thousands of pounds. Why, because they tried to save some money on laptops or tvs for their kids Christmas.

yeah lets all laugh at them. Nothing like kicking someone when they are down.

I wasn't laughing at anyone, but it's a pity a few more didn't heed the warnings at the beginning of this [resurrected] thread.:(
