Ryanair cuts it hand luggage allowance AGAIN - MSE News

• I totally agree with SephirothX on this, even worth quoting again:

" I don't mind them introducing a £6-10 charge for hand luggage - fair enough they can charge what they want for a flight. You just factor this in when booking. But what angers me is retrospectively introducing the fee for customers who have already made bookings"

Yes we can cancel our flights free of charge, but flights aren't the same as cancelling your broadband contract. Most often, prices will have risen since booking, you will have already incurred other non-refundable costs e.g. hotels, and Ryanair is often the only option (it is in my case), and since a fresh Ryanair booking will also obviously incur the new charges it's quite unlikely you can make this cost-neutral by cancelling/rebooking in most cases.

To me, it smacks of a truly unfair practice in this instance. Having received an email about my booking last night, I've raised a formal complaint on the Ryanair website. Once I receive their inevitably inadequate response, I shall complain to their regulatory body.

I should say I'm actually a big fan of Ryanair usually. Their prices and on-time record are unbeatable, and if I must play their silly games re: luggage and seating then I will. But I draw the line at being charged extra for the same service on an existing booking as if a flight was an easily replaceable product (at the same price or less).

I was thinking of the broadband contract comparison the other day, and yes you are spot on. It is an unfair practice.

• I ended up making a small (£2) profit on my rebookings once I'd finished due to price drops. My return flight had dropped another 6 euros between me cancelling it and rebooking it the following day. I'll never get the time back that they wasted but at least they don't get more money from me.

When Ryanair introduced the rule about non-priority boarders no longer being allowed a large bag in the cabin this was also applied retroactively to existing bookings. This was, what, less than a year ago? People either have a short memory or the great majority don't care. Next time they do this, there'll be people complaining in here again, yet Ryanair profits will continue to grow.

Damn it looks like me and my friends are going to be caught out by this. We had already booked our flights last week and fly after the 1st of November.

What are our options now then? Can we add priority boarding to our booking?

I didnt make the booking so i'll have to inform the person that did it for us....
• This has all come about because they stopped measuring the 'hand' luggage. Have you seen the size of the bags some people take on these days? You started getting families of four going on their summer holidays with 'mini' cases to save money.

This is going to open a whole new can of worms though. How many people know how much their hand luggage actually weighed? No one ever weighed hand luggage, but if you now have to check it in at the desk for £10 or whatever it is, you'll have to ensure it's only 10kg.

Unless it's sold out for your flight (which is unlikely), yes.
• Hi, can I ask a question. I booked flights back in August and flying out 3 November. Is there any time limit on cancelling the flights?. Would this effectively mean that I have free cancellation. i.e. Say I couldn't travel for whatever reason with a couple of days to go, could I pull the plug on it at such a late date for a full refund? Cheers

So I saidlast month:

Damn - this change has bitten me. We have a long weekend city break booked just after the change kicks in. This was the first time I've not booked a flight with priority after I flew two flights earlier this year following the last change, and found the priority queue was longer than the none-priority. I've just added the priority to our flight as I can't rebook as the price has jumped 50% everywhere since I booked, and we have a none-refundable hotel booking.
I've just now received this email from Ryanair:

Dear ic,

Our Cabin Bag Policy has changed.

As you booked [your flight] prior to the announcement of our new Cabin Bag Policy, and subsequently added Priority & 2 Cabin Bags to your booking, we will now give you this Priority & 2 Cabin Bags service free of charge. We've refunded you the fee paid in relation to this product. This will be returned to the funding source used to make this booking within the next 7 working days.

Priority & 2 Cabin Bags allows you to avail of the Priority queue and bring 2 bags into the cabin, 1 which must fit under the seat in front of you and the other (max 10kg, a small wheelie bag) which can be stored in the overhead locker.

Enjoy your trip.

• I received As you booked (flight) prior to the announcement of our new Cabin Bag Policy, we will add a 10kg Check-in Bag for each passenger on your booking, free of charge. This will be visible in the "view itinerary" section in your myRyanair account and on your boarding pass.

This 10kg bag must be dropped off at the check-in desk and will be available for collection at the baggage carousel in your arrival airport.
