Yes, that is likely to happen although I expect the number of priority boarding passengers will be capped so you should still have more overhead locker space than on other airlines.

Capped at 95 per flight I think

Yes, Ryanair does not yet appear to have contacted customers directly BUT I did notice that the new rules actually dont start until 1 September. Maybe buying themselves some time to gauge how big the backlash ?
I seem to remember they did something similar at the same time last year - there was so much confusion that I, a very frequent Ryanair flyer, went back into a booking I'd already made, and added Priority because I thought they were introducing something exactly like what they are now introducing effective 1-November-2017! In the event, they didn't and I think they postponed last year's change until January 2018 or similar - it is all very confusing to unravel what they might be up to, or even what they've been up to, but the fact is, irrespective of add-on costs and inconveniences, they are messing with emergency cabin evacuation safety in unknown ways by encouraging so much baggage in the cabin instead of in the hold where it belongs.

Are Ryanair not in breach of contract if they renege on a contract that was previously agreed?. ie. someone who has already booked a flight with them. Surely a contract is drawn up stating you pay us x amount and this is what we will provide in return. So you book a flight and they ask if you want the priority, if you decline then it says that your 10kg baggage will go in the hold (part of the agreed contract). It's like buying goods on the internet and the seller says the price will include delivery, then changes his mind later on and asks for a couple of pounds for delivery charges. Breach of Contract????

So what would you expect other than cancellation of the order and you getting your money back?

Same boat, but all they're obliged to do is offer a refund on the flights.

The new terms may be end up being the most acceptable thing given the alternative of actually cancelling flights for a refund, I for one will be accepting the new terms, however I'll then be avoiding Ryanair in future because it's no use shifting the goal posts after things are booked up!

We have a flight to Lisbon in November and I have just checked what I was hoping to take and can fit what I need into a small rucksack that fits inside the new measurement. Did a quick weight check and it comes in at 12kg. ironically this is heavier than would be permitted at the lowest costs in the hold, but weight doesnt appear to be factor for the "small bag" in the cabin.

Also, in relation to Ryanair's claim about speeding loading because of bag tagging. We have travelled on a Ryanair flight where the gate staff have walked the queue and tagged bags as people queued, and also when they have waited until passengers actually got to the gate. Guess which flight took longer to board. If you want to improve boarding times, far more time can be saved at the gate. Very often Mr O'leary makes claims which can be very easily counter-argued, but the media always seem fixated on the "extra cost" headline

Seemingly so - if your small bag at 35x20x20cm was filled with table sugar, then it'd weigh over 19kg :p

Not sure what you are getting at there, because the gate queue walking thing (which is usually practised when the aircraft isn't actually ready to be boarded) is clearly something Ryanair developed, and intended to save time at the gate itself (front of the queue you are talking about) as soon as the aircraft becomes ready. I don't much agree with the practice as they used to include a passport check too (whilst you are still way back in the queue) which I don't think is a secure way to do it - a non-eligible passenger could be substituted e.g. trafficked before walking through the gate. At Stansted there are daily some numbers returning landside from airside after "missing" their flight. Platform tickets in the guise of cheap boarding passes are all that is required to go to any airside gate in the airport and return again landside, and one person can in practice obtain multiple same day boarding passes for different flights, can't they?

However, back to legitimate effects of the latest Ryanair cabin luggage changes, I agree the media always seem fixated on the "extra cost" headline, and they too easily miss other latent consequences such as unknown effects on emergency cabin evacuation performance.

    You'll need to contact Ryanair.
