Priority passengers will be limited to 95 per flight as I believe they are now.

How do they limit the number of Priority passengers ??
If you are passenger number 96 trying to book priority does it not allow you to book ??
Only asking out of interest as I never ever book priority.
On my route from Leeds Bradford to Murcia I would say that probably 65% of people are priority & the overhead lockers are packed solid.

Correct, in the same way it only sells the number of seats available. It may also result in people booking sooner to guarantee priority.

Yes quite obviously so with a route to the South of Spain, or any other route that is obviously in heavy demand at certain periods or sometimes even year round, but try telling M. Sartre and his calculated assertions that ;)

I am a passenger who once vowed never pay for priority, but now I almost always do - to get the full in cabin baggage allowance - no other reason whatsoever. I wouldn't mind if it remained a fixed rule with a fixed additional charge, but it never does with Ryanair, not even for a full year. They're always tweaking the rules and the fees so even a very frequent flyer like me can scarcely keep up!

I rarely pay for a reserved seat. Maybe 8 times out of 10 I blag a £15 seat over the wing once I am on the aircraft - those seats usually don't sell out beforehand. As I have said, the luggage bins in that area are usually filled last, but the assertion that Ryanair luggage bins are generally no more full than any other carrier points for me to an overdue analysis by the likes of IAA and CAA to assess how heavy bias towards most baggage being carried in the cabin impacts upon emergency cabin evacuation. I see the Royal Aeronautical Society has taken a look at it this year.

I am not very familiar with the operations of Jet 2, Wizzair and easyjet, so don't know how packed their bins get, but I do fly Lufthansa and SAS most years, and don't recall seeing passengers hopefully wandering up and down trying to find a space for their bag on those traditional carriers. Ryanair is by far the biggest in fleet number terms so it is fair to single it out for a special look.

It depends on the seating density of the aircraft cabin of course. Ryanair's 737-800 seating density is higher I think than say a Lufthansa A321.

In my experience, the pre-doors closed / finding space in bins melee happens pretty much every flight with Ryanair on summer schedules at least.

Yes, if 95 have already booked priority then all bookings from that point will be non-priority. I imagine I'll almost always book priority from now on although the option to check in a bag up to 10kg for £10 may be beneficial at some point.
  • Fed up with Ryan air, they board you and then say, sorry, we are delayed....but your on the plane by then, always changing policies and stopped flying to certain airports in Hungary as the county would not pay Ryanair money to land there

    Exactly that.
  • Is it just me, or are already booked customers on flights after November finding this out in the news, rather than from Ryanair directly?

Seems best to avoid Ryanair if another airline is available... cancellation in favor of another airline would be the ideal to avoid this unplanned cost, but it's not straightforward when flights are part of the package for example.

In any case, have managed to get hand luggage sorted through priority boarding thanks to MSE.

Quite likely - you're going to be hit for £6 booking priority so an extra £2-4 can easily be soaked up with buying liquid stuff in resort instead of the airport.

Bad news is back to the good old days when I had a cheat sheet of various airline add-ons to guestimate final price from the advertised price. So back to "add a tenner for Ryanair if flying in the next month, possibly £20 if more than a couple of months, then mutiply by the greater likelyhood of cancellation" to choose your flight.

Used Ryanair many times over the last couple of years and to be honest the service has generally been good. When pricing their flights I have always mentally "added £25" to the price to cover pre-booking seats etc.

What I find most annoying about this latest change is:-

    1. It is being applied retrospectively to bookings already made eventhough the press release also says "it will be made clear for bookings made after 1st September.

    2. Because it officially doesnt kick in until after 1st September their online portal hasnt caught up. This probably explains why some passengers are saying that the price for 10kg hold luggage and priority bookings are not available/inconsistent with the announcement.

Like others, I have a trip at the end of November but with hotels etc booked separately that cannot be cancelled so WILL be going ahead. I think however I can carrying my clothese in a small rucksack which fits into the new bag sizes (note...the gap under the seat is SMALLER than the bag sizers ...that will be interesting when on board!).

And for people with "extras" booked with Ryanair, be careful if you choose to cancel. At present their service agents are giving wrong information and, READ CAREFULLY...their press release says you can get a refund on the flight..(just saying..)

Yes, Ryanair does not yet appear to have contacted customers directly BUT I did notice that the new rules actually dont start until 1 September. Maybe buying themselves some time to gauge how big the backlash ?
