We got there. 5 x £10 M&S vouchers arrived Saturday from Milton Keynes.

No letter of apology for the fiasco in general or breaking their own T&C's in particular, but the vouchers were probably from an outsource company, hence the timely response. Maybe Barclaycard ought to outsource their credit card operations to someone, who not only know what they are doing but also know how to keep their word to their customers.

One last call, probably to our friends in India, on Monday then.

Contrary to other posters on here I didnt have any problems with this one - got my boots vouchers in the post this morning nicely in time for the January sales.

One thing I hadn't twigged before reading this thread though was the balance transfer option (well I was chasing the freebie only) but I will be looking at the transfer to egg option to see if I could do that so thanks for mentioning it.

  • I've just rung them and cancelled my card. As expected, they wanted to know why, even after I asked them if they were very, very sure. Either because they realised they were out of their depth, and/or because they couldn't understand me, I got transferred to the "loyalty" department, which is evidently in the UK.

They got the full blast of the draft of my complaint letter, based on my rantings and ravings on this forum, as well. Having a "script" helps to avoid getting either tongue-tied and/or sounding too irate.

PS. I also got the distinct impression that the UK staff actually welcome complaints about the offshore call centre.

    Oh dear....

I eventually got the form for the vouchers and have sent it off (recorded delivery & photocopied-just-in-case;) )

    BUT

NO STATEMENT  so can't pay the bill

    Phoned up today.

I found out that the statement had been sent 5 weeks ago, so my payment is overdue and I am to pay £12 ...

It took ages to sort this out as the poor woman at the other end of the phone kept losing her place in her script and kept having to ask me to repeat things (my regional accent gets stronger when I am upset)

I think I have got it straight now (= they have removed the £12 charge) but I just hope the vouchers come asap as I want to dump this card!

  • Received 5 X £10 John Lewis vouchers - no expiry date and can also be used online. Glad it's finally arrived:j :j :j
  • Hello Stephen. Just read above that you have FINALLY got your vouchers - see there is a Santa Claus after all! I have replied to your private message in case you still want to have a parting shot. Good luck.
  • Thanks for that, LZ.

Overall, the timescale wasn't actually that bad: I applied on 21 October and the vouchers arrived 8 December. However, this was only down to my instant turnaround of everything I had to send them and the prompt response by the voucher handling firm.

The problems were the poor planning, the poor communication (both internal and external) and the casual way that they broke their own terms and conditions over the despatch of the voucher request form. If you or I were late paying, we all know what Barclaycard's reaction would be.

All of this was compounded by the poor handling of the resulting customer calls. Since my days with BT, I have firmly believed that the use of cheap offshore call centres shows an implicit lack of commitment to excellent customer service.

  • I applied for this offer spent on it straight away and got my vouchers a few weeks ago.

My boyfriend applied for the same offer but didn't buy anything until the 26th November. I just wanted to check that the date you have to use the card by to be entitled to the vouchers is 30th November?

    Thanks.
  • That's right Joannef. Spend must be before 30 November.

Thanks. I'll get him to give them a chase then.
