I take it we can expect to see another new user id appearing very soon then with a new fantasy life, given the covers clearly been blown on this one?0

I know very little about RX8s but it is possible that the car will self adjust for higher (or lower) octane using the knock sensor to determine the optimum ignition timing.
You sure do. I just explained in the post above yours that this is not the case. And I don't even think there is such a thing as knock in a rotary engine.i always used 99 in my rx. dont want carbon deposits on seals which are already temperamental.
You're confusing the Octane rating with cleaning additives. A higher octane rating on it's own isn't necessarily cleaner. Although most high octane fuels here generally advertise additives.
OP - when you do post the pic of you car, make sure it isn't whilst in the garage forecourt (Lexus).0 -

The RX8 does have a knock sensor and the ECU does adjust the timing to suit.0 -

OK, thanks. But it does NOT benefit from higher octane fuel thank 95RON, on a UK car.0 -
I think I had that debate a couple of years back where someone insisted that their Mitsubishi something or other needed higher octane. If a hypothetical RX8 is UK-spec it would presumably be set for 95 RON as a default/minimum; if it was a grey import or the ECU had been remapped then it could possibly be set for 99/100. Whether the ECU is sophisticated enough to adjust both for "lower than expected" and "higher than expected" fuel - I don't know.I need to think of something new here...0

"need" is usually a strong word. Our A45 "prefers" higher octane fuel, but it can run on 95RON if necessary - it just retards the timing / performance. Not much point in running a performance car and cutting corners on the fuel though.
Generally cars adjust if its lower than expected, and dont benefit if its higher than expected.0
