Does an LSD made a noise like ABS when its working?

They basically let you spin both rear wheels rather than just one, then the back of the car tries to overtake the front. You needed to know how to drive, rather than treat the pedals as binary switches like we do with modern cars.
Thats wholly not their purpose.
A standard rear diff, if you lose grip on one wheel will just allow it to spin and the other wheel will lose power as all the power will go to the spinning wheel.
A limited-slip differential allows its two output shafts to rotate at different speeds but limits the maximum difference between the two shafts, and when one loses traction the diff will transfer the power to the other wheel.
You can easily spin both rear wheels (power levels permitting) without an LSD, if thats your thing.0 -
I was told a long time back, by people who had cars fitted with them, that they wore tyres unevenly and had problems with reliability.
Never had a car fitted with one though.
Whether anyone should be driving a car hard enough to need one on the road is a moot point though.
As they still allow both rear wheels to move at different speeds, they shouldnt increase tyre wear through normal use.
A locked diff, or a solid / welded diff will, but not an LSD.
As i've said, my MINI could be doing with it, and that would be at quite legal speeds. Its not uncommon for higher power cars to benefit from one.
If the back of the car is trying to overtake the front, then thats down to poor vehicle control by the driver, rather than because of the diff.0 -

I know. It lets you drive harder out of corners, as if the inside wheel starts to lift, you still get drive to the other.
You aren't supposed to spin both wheels, but it is what happens if you are lead footed or standing on ice. An LSD doesn't manufacture grip, it just helps you make the most of what is available. The old Jags needed them as you had to push them through a bend. If you lifted off, or lost traction, they immediately went through the hedge (and changed into a white MK1 that plunged off a cliff and exploded half way down)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Absolutely. And i never said otherwise.
Old Jags, etc needed them as the suspension setup and tyres were relatively speaking, primitive.0 -
Just to confirm I'm getting around 21mpg around town and 25-30mpg on a run. Is this normal? Besr in mind I do drive quite hard but even when I drive sedately the mpg only goes up by 5mpg.
Reading up online, it's recommended to use Castrol Power 1 as a fuel pre mix and 99RON fuel? Will this help increase the mpg?
I currently alternate between normal and premium unleaded and occasionally add 50-100ml 10w40 mineral oil for a full tank as premix.
The engine also burns more oil than I thought. I'm currently topping up the oil by about half to a full litre of 10w40 semi synthetic on every second petrol station visit.
My journey will be increasing in the coming weeks meaning I will be doing more motorway mileage and I need to find a way to get more mpg0 -

Oh i think he owns this car - and lets be honest, the loose change down the back of your settee would buy this car so not a great achievement - but not a pups chance this guy had a £35K M2 that he bought for cash and then wrote it off.0 -

How do you not know the answers to these fundamental questions already, give you allegedly had an identical one before the M2 for 7 years?
