We have artex everywhere, it's horrendous. The house was built in the late 80's so we can't sand it off as it could contain asbestos, so we'd have to plasterboard all the ceilings.

Ours is from the 1960s. I did a LOT of research on it before doing anything, and took lots of precautions. The dust is the issue, and so took lots of steps to dampen and reduce the dust and gave it all a good clean through after. I also made sure I wore full protection and isolated the kitchen so dust couldn't travel.
I hate artex. We used to have it on our hall walls in our last house and it was really sharp .

    Yes, it's horrible!

I can remember in the early 90s when my parents had all the ceilings in our house artexed.

    Good luck with Operation Kitchen.

    Thank you :)

In our last house we the lounge totally artexed badly (we bought it like that) and I ruined my knuckles scraping it off. It was so badly done I think that I would still be sanding it now (we moved there in 1985)as it was put on in lumps. . I only ever did one wall and ignored the rest. Good job I am not too house proud.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Good luck with the rest of operation kitchen.

:rotfl: :rotfl: There are so many artex horror stories out there, it's amazing people thought it looked good! I can understand it on ceilings, but the walls is just bizarre. I guess it's like woodchip wallpaper :rotfl:

Operation kitchen is due to continue this weekend. I need to get it all put back together. It's too easy and excuse for me not to be prepared on SW.
Speaking of which, I put another 1.5 on this week *sigh*.

I need to sort myself out!

Was waiting for black friday to get little miss's birthday present. Checked today and the tablet was on offer. £45 saved and I also had some vouchers so another £12 off :T :T Also got cheap cat food and little jwil's gift for little miss as well. Very pleased about that :T

Wow jwil. I'm so impressed! You're a woman on a mission. You're doing so well! I can't believe how much you've achieved in such a short time. You're a one woman whirlwind when you put your mind to it. And decluttering your paint in the process! You must be doing well to inspire mr jwil too. Husbands never sit up and take note like that.

I was popping on to tell you the Amazon fire is reduced so well done on getting that already. Great work. I'm trying to get my list ready so I can pounce as the black friday deals come through.

You are doing brilliantly. Don't forget rest time too. I'm the worst for not giving myself any. Its kids or work or I'm being selfish so I know how hard it is.

    Keep going you wonder xxxx

  • Wow cant believe how busy youve been. Im inspired to consider filling and sanding my hallway. We started stripping it three years ago but some of the ceiling fell off and we are in limbo..
You have inspired me to fill and sand the walls round it ready to paint.
