Jwil I feel your pain with he car boot sales. We also did one on Sunday and only took £20, my friend also stood and did pretty much same. I was very busy though with Bank Hols so I’m guessing people just had too much choice! Got to be easier ways to earn £20 that don’t involve being out the house ridiculously early :rotfl:

Yes, about £22 here too :( This boot sale is usually quite good for clearing certain things, not this time. There were several others on though and with it being a nice weekend I guess a lot may have gone away.

Got a quiet day at home today with just little jwil. He is happy to just chill and play so I'm going to try and get organised again.

Now this holiday is over, I need to try and get back on track with my finances. I want this house fund sorted once and for all and I need to get an emergency fund in place. Once these are sorted I can start getting rid of the last of these debts.

I need to get a grip with my budget, it's just not working for me, so I need to go through very carefully, and I'm going to have to be very strict with my groceries, as I suspect that is where I am falling down.

I am starting to make a list for Christmas, and in the meantime I have 4 birthdays coming up before Christmas including DH and Little Miss.

We are away on a Sun holiday weekend in October, so will need a bit of cash for that. The holiday is paid for but will need the cattery, fuel and food/anything we decide to do.

When I get paid I need to make sure little jwil has everything he needs for school. There's not a lot, just shoes, a water bottle, PE shorts and a PE bag.

I need to sort out my online banking today as I got locked out while away. I also need to reconfirm my childcare eligibility with HMRC for the free hours, and sort out the voting form.

I need to book little miss in for an extra day at nursery as I have a work thing I need to attend.

Lots to do! Have a good day everyone :)

Online banking and HMRC sorted :T

I've been through my accounts and budget with a fine toothed comb. I think I've finally got an aspirational/workable budget. I say aspirational as it's really tight, so some of the things I'd like to do (annual bills etc), I'll be dipping into for the next year as I try and pay for my priority aims (house fund and EF). I'm technically double counting them as I am currently paying for them monthly but want to put the money aside to pay for them annually, so they are included in my outgoings, but also in the money I plan to put away.

I'll keep earning extra from surveys where I can, and if I spot anything else I can eBay I'll do that.

Once I've got the priority aims sorted, and this time next year my childcare bill will go down again ( :j ) I should have a healthy budget with some wiggle room to really smash my debts.

I downloaded an app onto my phone last night, where I've put in my budget for fuel and groceries, and I can then input any spends. I was going to transfer it to another account, but I can't remember my pin at the moment, and I'd lose my 'save the change' option, so I will try this app to keep a record of how I'm doing for now.

I've tried budgeting before, but this is the first time I'm really making an effort at it (says me who hasn't been paid yet :rotfl: )

  • You sound really motivated and on fire jwill and I am sure you will succeed. I normally do a couple of big car boots a year but the last two have been pretty rubbish and I feel not really worthwhile so instead of saving stuff I have been sending it to charity and feel quite at peace with my decision. I may regret it next year but I will think about that then! X

I'm having a go at monzo. You give everything a category. I'm liking it so far but it's hard working out categories. I'm trying to work it all out and if it would be best to put all my eggs in one basket with it. Get someone to recommend you for a fiver. Easier money than a car boot.

You're really getting there with your stuff xxxx
    Loan 1 £5200/£8000
    Loan 2 £300/£5800
    Total £5500/£13800

Yes, I'm the same, I think I'd rather give it to charity now. I've cleared all the stuff that will give me decent amounts.

You can recommend me :D What do you need?

I've just gone for fudget - it does what I want it to at this stage. I'm not really looking for anything fancy, I just wanted to track the categories I spend 'on the go' rather than everything.

I only made about £20 on my first and only car boot sale so sympathise. I too now tend to donate to charity and treat it as part of my 'giving'
