I had a good old day cleaning the other day. Pulled out the fridge and cooker and gave the wall behind a good old scrub. I've tried this several times through the years, and never managed to make a difference (it is fake tiles behind and they were filthy and discoloured). This time I used good old fashioned cif cream and a scourer and they've come up a treat :T The back of the oven was also covered in built up dirt and grease and that's all gone now too.

Went over the floor with a scrubbing brush, steam cleaner and cloth and have finally got rid of the built up dirt from under the oven. Swapped the oven and fridge around - as the pipes and plugs suggest it is the more sensible option. It looks much better.

Everyone who reads knows how much I hate the kitchen and how filthy it always seems to me. This finally feels like I've made some progress, and whilst it's all still really old and annoying, it doesn't feel like it's quite so bad now. At least it will be clean. This job has been on my to do list for years, and I've made several half-hearted attempts, which didn't seem to achieve anything.

I've decided that after the summer, I want to either get it skimmed or I'm going to try and remove the artex. I've been looking up how to do it safely, and our kitchen is small so there isn't huge amounts to do. Because ultimately the kitchen needs replacing, I don't want to spend huge amounts of money, so I'm thinking removing the artex and painting might be a better option but will see about getting quotes.

I'm also going to take the advice from the lovely folk on here who suggested painting the floor with garage paint to make it easier to keep clean. I think it will make the kitchen much easier to live with until we can save up to replace it.

I've also made a start on clearing the paths in the garden. I think I've got a house starting to appear under the junk! :D:D

Well done on the kitchen clean. You seem to be where I am with my kitchen and can't decide whether to skim and/or put in a basic kitchen. Reading your post it is clear I would be a lot happier with it if I could give it a thorough deep clean.

Do you know, I am surprised about just how much of a difference feeling that it is clean has made to me. I think with that plus sorting out the artex and floor, I'll be fine with it for longer.

Well done on the oven clean. Mine needs doing - I've bought the stuff but doing it is something else. Hope the rain stops long enough for you to get out and about over the weekend.
