Again, for the umpteenth time, tell me how you fund this wonderful care system full of low paid immigrant workers on zero hour contacts. Was that short enough for you???Red-Squirrel wrote: »Ok sorry, you are massively contradicting yourself and getting away with it by writing massive rambling posts that nobody will be bothered to deal with!
You stated that the problem with importing foreign care workers is that we have unemployed people here already who could do the work.
If they wanted to be care workers, they would be, wouldn't they? Its not exactly a difficult industry to get into!0 -
So you want to encourage people to work, by telling them you'll asset strip their golden years?.....
There's no popular way to pay for an increase in workers rights and the resulting cost to sectors like care. That's why no change has been affected.
I'd also happily just increase the amount of general tax to pay for it, but that's even less popular.0 -

Why would it need additional funding? Isn't that the system we already have?0 -

All these 'no magic money tree' arguments are redundant.
There is plenty of money, its not being spent wisely.0 -
You mean the system that is collapsing due to lack of funding? If low paid immigrant workers on zero hour contracts are already the saviour of the care system, it doesn't seem to be working very well, so doing more of it doesn't make sense. Why would it need additional funding? Isn't that the system we already have?0 -
Please... Tell us how to spend it more wisely! You are still making meaningless assertions without a single idea too bolster them. Tell us how to do it. Not just say there's loads of money!Red-Squirrel wrote: »All these 'no magic money tree' arguments are redundant.

I'd like to see jobs like caring be viewed with the respect they deserve, with better pay and training and progression opportunities. Same for lots of other jobs.
A lot of people don't understand what living/national min wage looks like as a salary.
£19,500 for a 50 hour week at £7.50 per hour, any over time not paid, 8 to 12 week unequal notice period, no training. This was ultimately just a job in a pretty sexist environment where the CEO hated the real guys that made the company the money.
Compared to a job per national living wage
£15,270 for a 37.5 hour week at £7.83 per hour, with over time and possible bonus, both sides statutory notice period, 8 weeks of training/development and time given on starting, for a permanent job (hopefully) not ending in a couple of months. In a year or two if commitment is shown, then the opportunity to go on and up.YoungBlueEyes wrote: »There are huge numbers of work shy benefits claimants.
Who can blame them - currently having to consider court action or a tribunal for around 142.5 hours worked within the last month - unpaid.

You mean the system that is collapsing due to lack of funding?
Yes, that's exactly the one I mean. To be clear, I see that we are debating two options;
1) Continue with the low pay, zero hours situation and use immigrants to staff the jobs
2) Increase wages and working conditions so the jobs appeal to a greater number of British people
You are arguing for the second, much more expensive option right? But you are saying you disagree there is wast in the current system and you disagree with raising taxes to pay for it. So what is your solution for funding the second option?
I feel I'm pretty clear that I support the second solution, but using economic migrants to fill employment gaps while they still exist, and that I support a raise in taxes to pay for option two.0
