Looking for information on how to help cousin come to UK for work

Hello, I hope this is in the right place ?


I was wondering if anyone could give me info or point me in the right direction of where to get info on how to help a family member come to the UK, to stay for 3-4 years, to work. I have absolutely no idea where to begin. Is this even allowed???



My cousin is Filipino but currently working full-time in Dubai, and has been doing so for about 2 years now. He is a good, hard worker and is only working abroad because the pay is (for his skill-set) of course, higher.


He only wants to work abroad for 3-4 more years, to save enough money to build his own house for him and his mum. Then he said he would not mind going back home to be with family - on a lower paid job there.


Surely there is some way I can help him to come here and work?


He speaks good English. His skill set is probably supermarket work, barista work, care assistant work etc. He works as a yacht supervisor in Dubai, and also worked as shop supervisor in a coffee shop there, and also as a salesperson in a mall.


Of course he would be paying his way here in the UK. I only want to help him by finding out if this is even possible.

Edit: Forgot to add, he was a care giver (care assistant) in the Philippines and has qualifications in that, if that is of any use here in the UK I'm not sure, but he has experience.

Do a search on "Philipino requirements to work in UK" and there are lots of sites providing information. They will require a visa to work in the UK.

From what I have read, most applicants will need to have a job ready for them when they arrive and a suitable sponsor employer. It's not easy. Many people from the Phillipines work in the care sector in the UK so I'm guessing that qualifications gained in the home country are recognised in the UK.

I'm going to start by apologising for my country and saying that I do not agree with how things are.

However unfortunately in your cousins situation it will be impossible for them to work here. Work visas will need a sponsor company and the minimum earning requirement is £30,000. So your cousin would need an employer who would pay them more than this before they come here.

Agree. We have plenty of supermarket and costa worker who don't need visas.

Residential live in housekeeping - I regularly see ads (which I have picked the agencies up on) 'Filipino housekeeper wanted'. They are however allowed to say 'Tagalog speaker' and get round it that way. I've been told I can't be put forward for a role as 'they want a Filipino'. If you Google Filipino housekeeper you'll see what I mean. Not sure about visas etc but agencies would know. However I've heard they are so popular as they work very long hours, 6 days a week and don't go out much - don't know how true that is but it seems to be the opinion of many.

It's my country too, and I'm not apologising for it, so don't speak on my behalf. "My country" is doing exactly what most countries do - protecting jobs for their own citizens first, and only permitting people to work if there is no suitable worker already in the country. Just because a country has immigration policies does not make it wrong, and it is entirely possible to disagree with some aspects of immigration policy whilst supporting the general concept of immigration policy. There is an abundance of available unskilled labour in this country who should be working and could do the kind of jobs being suggested by the OP. If the available workforce doesn't want those jobs, that is the issue that needs addressing - not bringing more unskilled people into the country simply because they will work hard. Quite apart from anything else, the idea smacks of the old imperialist notions that these are the kinds of jobs suited to "foreigners" and aren't suitable for "white people like us". There's still too much of that attitude around.

The OPs relative, with the best will in the world, is unskilled and offers nothing that we do not currently have in abundance.
