My DD is at a uni an hour from here - far enough away that she has to live there, but close enough that we can get there quickly if an emergency (like her phone totally failing within the first month and its on our business account and they wouldn't deal with her - cue a trip there on a Fri evening - that goodness for late night opening in the shopping centre!) and close enough for her to come home for a weekend and it not be too rushed) DS1 is 2 hours away which is still *just* ok for all the above - at a push.
Living away from home has made my daughter - she has grown up so much (and delights in being a semi-adult) xI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £201 -
It's always a double edged sword when your babies grow up;) It's good that she is thinking of her future and I think that you're right CR - some time to be herself and not have to consider her sister will do her the world of good; doesn't matter how much you love someone, sometimes just being who you are rather than who people expect you to be can have a really positive impact on emotional development as well as independence skills;)
I think 16 is pretty young too....I'm in my 50's now and still don't know what I want to be when I grow up!!:rotfl:1 -
Thanks karmacat, greent and squirrelgirl for your lovely comments, DD1 is feeling a bit more settled about the whole university issue. Trying to get her to think about doing some voluntary work at our local hospice shop/cafe which give her experince of working with people, money etc which could help her get a job when she goes to uni as we won't be able to contribute on a regular basis. She should get the full amount of maintence loan due to our income, but probably won't cover everything. Life has been fairly hectic here. DH decided that we needed to decorate the spare room/junk room. Had to take him up on the offer as he hates decorating unfortunately the paint fumes set his asthma off. We then had to play hunt the inhaler which was found eventually in the car! Slowly putting the room back together and decluttering which is a massive job in its self. Really pleased with how it looks so far.
All the Christmas presents are now bought and very little wrapping required as most are either experiences, plants, or donations. Big family collective donation was done last night and the winner out of the hat was the salvation army. Donated £80 today online and DH doesn't want anything so I've donated £30 to water aid as this was one of the charities he'd mentioned, a timely advert on the TV was the decider.
TT everyday but can't remember exact amount. Decided to try claimimg for PPI ourselves as had issues with a company we're using. Even though I am the second signature on the claim they insisted on speaking to DH who works long hours. Explained they either spoke to me or they removed our name from their computer, still wanted to speak to DH, so put the phone down on them. They rang an hour later wanting to speak to DH explained I'd already spoke to them and it was either me or nothing, continued to say it was him they needed to speak to. So in the end said take us off your list, but they unable to do that as DH need to say it, so carefully expalined that I would block their calls and put the phone down on them. Gosh that was long winded. Completed the form on MSE site took about 10 minutes, phone call to bank who are going to send me statements concerning the years we had the PPI as we have no documents. So we will wait and see, and I will continue to enjoy playing how many times do I need to tell you I'm the second signature oooooo nearly started again.
Best friend is ill with the flu so meal is cancelled tomorrow, its a saving if nothing else.
HMMM what else .... no cheese week went well, nobody crumbled. This week is no meat week which I'd forgot and bought burger buns, which will now have to be frozen.
Starting to think about goals for next year and beyond.Other than that not much else to report.

Nobody crumbled during no cheese week :rotfl: that made me laugh, sorry!
Things sound *so* busy for you! But going really well2023: the year I get to buy a car1 -
Took me awhile karmacat to twig on why you laughed, but got there in the end. Major brain fog :rotfl: which is quite apt as that is what i'm looking at today for my next assignment.
TT of 96p. Stocking gifts sorted today, mulled wine bought in preperation for putting the tree up saturday or sunday, just need a :xmastree: now.
15 mins of yoga done, dog walked and hopefully swimming later to build my fitness up from sloth to speedy slug so that I can complete the 3 peaks challenge in 2020. Need that amount of time to prepare as very unfit , very overweight and a painful hip. But I'm determined to do it and apple munchers challenge on the DFW board has spurred me on to set my goal now rather than the new year.

Had major problems with the net here over the last couple of days but it appears to be finally sorted. Not been able to TT or complete any OU has been abit frustrating but in the grand scheme of things it matters not. Went swimming the other day and managed 20 length of the pool which I'm really pleased with. My shoulder and hip injuries tried to protest at first but after a couple of length they piped down and just sulked. Was expecting to be achy the following day but didn't, so will go again on Sunday. Yoga going well and hip continues to improve although somedays its 2 steps forward and one step back , but its improving and that is the main thing. Still plodding on with the mortgage application. ALL shopping is now complete, just need to go for a box of oranges with leaves for DD1 on christmas eve. For years she would only put these and blu tack on her list, buying christmas presents for her was like playing russian roulette with a gun with one bullet:rotfl:. You never knew if you were going to get it right. Food wise its going to be cheese, crackers, bread and nibbles for tea Christmas eve and roasted herby, garlic toms on muffins for breakfast christams morning and that will be all the cooking I will need to do till the 27th and the shops will be open if we need anything. It always amazes me when I shop on christmas eve (early start about 7am armed with just a basket) and there are people with trolleys overflowing with stuff. Its as if the shops are going to be shut for weeks. I do like a good look in other people's trollies though I like to see what they've bought and often wonder how much will be wasted, or will be eaten and then they will complain of been overweight (hold my hand up I am one of these people:eek:). I still have to wrap presents and write cards though:eek::eek:. Hoping to go :xmastree: shopping tomorrow and fingers crossed it will be up Sunday:D.
Submitted energy readings today hoping they don't put it up again otherwise I'll have to look to move us. DH out tonight as he is going to the leaving do of someone he used to work with. DD1 is off to my mum's so it will be just me and DD2. Having a movie night and our favourite comfort food jacket pot, cheese and beans mmmmmmmmm.
Hope your all having a MSE day

Hi CR,
I got a bit behind on diaries recently but I've just had a catch up on yours, you always sound so busy! glad you are sounding organised for Christmas, hope you get a nice :xmastree: this weekend. We've had ours up a week already, it's not annoying me yet
Good luck with training for the 3 peaks! I'd quite like to do something similar, it's good to have a goal. Last year I did a 100km walk which took a lot of training. It was hard but such a great sense of achievement at the end :T
Are you using a specific yoga app or video? dd1 and I have talked about doing some yoga and 15 minutes sounds doable.Mortgage March 2011 £143,927.6

Flying visit to forum. Realised I've not TT since the 11/12/18 so made a small payment of 50p this morning, Not been on here much as trying to claw back some of the time lost last week due to the internet been down on my course, then want to get ahead if I can to enjoy Christmas without having to do some work. The tree went up on Sunday and is filling the house with Chrismassy smells. We went to a local nursery and feel we got a bargin, although it didn't feel it at first as OH used to get them through work and we'd only have to give a donation. However after been round several other places and seen their prices for the size we got, its cheap. Several Christmas presents have winged their way to their new owners, only the girls and my mum's to wrap and then I am done. Oh forgot need to get my gran a big bunch of flowers for friday as she is coming to visit my dad. She is really difficult to buy for but loves her garden, but is finding it hard to keep on top of so won't add any additional plants. So flowers it will be, chrysanthemums,as they will remind her of grandad. Well better go and get DD2 up and get her to school before first break.
Hope you all have a good day and hope to catch up with some of your diaries soon.

Sounds like you've got things pretty well under control, CR, good luck with getting the academic work done in time to have a proper break.2023: the year I get to buy a car1

:hello:Crumpets I don't use a yoga app or video. I have quite a few books, watched quite a few youtube video's and developed my own. I focused on those moves which targeted areas that I felt needed it (hip and shoulder). I have found that by keeping it to 15 mins in a morning I more likely to do it every day and helps get stiff muscles moving. I used to do an hour but sometimes time constraints and life would prevent me doing it. I did consider going to a class, again cost and time prevented this. Hope you find what your looking for and sorry I can't point you to anything specfic.
TT 72pthis am.
OU work slowly been ploughed through, not sure how much is going in or been retained. Spent a hour or so cooking yesterday. Managed to make pumpkin and sage soup, pasta sauce and salty pots mmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Had a enjoyable walk with dog in the rain and the thicky oozy mud yesterday:rotfl:.
Well off to get DD2 up for school, going to be a difficult week I feel.
