£5.83 spent today, on bananas, bread, noodles & beansprouts. But I've been asked to pick up a couple of things tomorrow for OH's lunches this week, so I'll have to add those onto the L!dls run tomorrow. Apparently they don't have the use of their microwave this week so he can't take in portions of the previous evening's supper to reheat, like he normally does.
Scrumped loads of blackberries today, some of which are in the freezer, some cooked up as blackberry & apple with apples from our big tree, and some just in the fridge for eating with sugar & cream, possibly on pancakes for breakfast. Yum...Angie - GC Aug25: £207.73/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -

Was planning on doing a weekly shop on Monday the day after I got back from holiday, but was sitting friend's children and she was back 2 hours after she said! So then I didn't have time to go to the shops as had to pick up cats from cattery and then straight to kid's swimming lessons.
Got home at 6pm and had nothing in, so we had to have a chinese takeaway. I allow one per month so that's gone already!
Hubby had sweet and sour with rice (£5.20) and I had chicken chow mein shared with the 3 kids (£4.80). Surprisingly the chow mein went a long way.
Anyway I had to do the shop in the evening but had to wait till hubby home and then left, got to Aldi to find had forgotten wallet! Got back home to get it and arrived there 10 minutes left before closing, no list, had to get just enough for 1 day.
So first shop £14.28 for packed lunch stuff, fruit and veg and one meal for Tuesday night and milk for all of us.
Then Tuesday night hubby said he would put the chicken and potatoes on so dinner was almost ready when I got in from work. Got in at half 8 and he hadn't even put the oven on! Was so angry as it takes 20 mins to heat up and the chicken took 40 mins, and after 4.5 hours sleep the night before I wanted to go to bed, not wait an hour for tea!
So I popped to Aldi (shame) to get something quicker, and at the same time got something for Thursday for tea as Friday is my next day off to do a big shop. Spent £18.39 for two main meals (gnocchi, spinach and a jar sauce which was horrible) for the quick meal and frozen risotto and tuna steaks for Thursday night. As I work late on a Thursday it needs to be something my husband can cook easily. Also needed washing powder for my holiday washing mountain, face scrub, bread and bananas and got falafels for our lunch today and they had snack boxes in so got two of those for daughters packed lunches.
So total £32.57 for about 3 days which sounds ok. Big shop Friday and will try to meal plan more efficiently!Grocery Challenge Jul £380.75 Aug £637 Sep £539.82 Oct £53.43 / £475

I have been missing from MSE for a long time. Life and work just gets in the way but I have to get back to money saving because we are really struggling at the moment.
I honesty dont know how to reduce our grocery spend! Sounds so silly but seeing how little everyone else spends its making me feel so bad! There are 2 adults and 3 kids in our household (eldest eats like an adult).
I need to keep an eye on the oldstyle as it helped me so so much previously. Will have a good read and see what I can do.2 adults and 3 children DD (14), DD (12) & DS (10) :smileyhea and 2 mental beagles.

Mummygems, don't worry, we've all been there and I for one dip in & out according to the somewhat wobbly state of our finances. And Hopeless Case, I hope you're feeling better by now? I'm just going down with this horrible scratchy throat & cold bug so I've been rushing to get everything in so I can put my feet up (chance would be a fine thing!) a bit for the next couple of days.
Lots of money spent today, on the big non-perishables run to L!dls and a dip into Pets@Home, who used to be the cheapest source of the dried cat food that suits our Eldest Resident Moggy. Sadly not any more... but I was there so I bought it anyway. I'm going to go over-budget on pet food & am going to have to rethink my strategy, though I have to keep to stuff that doesn't upset her digestion. No good saving money on food if the vet bills rocket instead...
So quite a big chunk of the monthly budget has gone already, but the store cupboard is full & I shouldn't need anything much except fresh stuff. That said, they were out of a few items so I had to buy more expensive substitutes & I'm not convinced they'll last as well - i.e. 2 packs of posher loo roll instead of one big pack. The rolls, whilst probably more luxurious to the touch, don't look as large... we'll see. DS3 is only with us for a couple more days, so having one less mouth to feed/behind to cater for should make a difference.Angie - GC Aug25: £207.73/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
