I have been away for a while, but I am trying to get back on track.
I have kept .my receipts and updated my signature, I spent far more than I intended but took advantage of MOCs, so managed to stock up on enough cat food and cat litter to last until the end of October I have also got a fair amount of staples in the cupboard. .
So a reset starts here, DS3 is back to uni next week, I need to lose a stone, and I have £124 to last until Christmas.
Wish me luck!Grocery challenge 2025: £650/1500 annual budget0 -
Evening everyone
Can I join again?
Im a bit lost budgeting wise and teenager is currently consuming several boxes of cereal a week I'm trying to downgrade him to more budget versions...
I'm aiming for £250 for the month but desperately need to cut down on work lunches and take pack up!
So far this month I've bought lunch 4 days in a row. Tomorrow I'm making sarnies finally.
Meal plan for this week is sorted, I seem to have gone off meat which is pretty handy!
Monday - omelette, veg, sweet potato fries
Tuesday - chickpea curry and rice
Wednesday - chickpea curry and rice
Thursday - cashew nut stir fry
Friday - pasta with home made tomato sauce
Saturday - breaded fish, potatoes, veg
Sunday - veggie roast (maybe a nut roast... need some inspiration:) )0 -
Evening all. I modified my online order and that pushed it up another €15 or so. It's coming between 7am and 8am today so I'll wait until I get the delivery to add the final adjusted amount. The good news for myself is that I decided to cut down my party menu by half so that's half the cooking work to do. I am so glad I came to my senses on that front. The spicy black beans are cooking in my Instant Pot now and I'll start on the meat tomorrow.
Well! On to the shopping front! Some more purchases on Tuesday and Wednesday to log.
€14.67 at Delhaize for actual food to eat this week: eggs, yoghurt, strawberries, spinach, mushrooms, avocado, etc.
€38.75 at the halal store for lots of beef and chicken.
60¢ at the halal store for two bunches of cilantro.
€12.27 at Carrefour for red onions, avocados, limes and other stuff.
€4.40 at Latin American store for canned jalapeños.
TOTALS SO FAR:
€255.57/€500.00

Later today (Thursday) I'll go buy more of the perishable stuff as well as paper plates, plastic cutlery, etc. I also spotted a few items on Lidl's promo list I'd like to put in my freezer such as chicken thighs and pork steaks so I'll stop by there tomorrow too.
The thread is moving so fast since so many people have joined! I can't wait to catch up properly over the next few days. Again, welcome to all the new folks! :j0 -
Stoopy I think you need to invest in a slow cooker, plenty of good buys about at the moment.Do I need it or just want it.0

Morning everyone, bit late this month as we've been away, and I've had no internet all week!
Please can I go down for £350 for September? Think I came in around budget last month, so sticking with it for this month. We have plenty in the cupboards/freezer, so hopefully it will be easy to keep UNDER budget this time!
Thanks thread organisers :j

Quick update so the numbers don't get lost in the shuffle aka my addled brain the next few days. The online order arrived this morning and there was a difference of €15.86.
€26.87 at Delhaize this morning for tons of tomatoes, garlic, more sour cream, etc. I picked up some YS pork belly slices for me and a nice pot of babaganoush for OH since he's trying to avoid hummus. Poor guy; hummus is one of his go to foods and he's trying to low carb.
TOTALS SO FAR:
€298.30/€500.00

I head out to Lidl in a bit after doing some work and having lunch (pork belly!). Also on the list will be paper bowls, plates, etc but I don't think I'll count those toward the GC.0 -
So far this month I have spent £0 on food shopping!!
I went through the freezer and wrote down everything I had in and then made a meal plan for this week just using up bits I've got. My freezer is almost empty but I don't mind I've saved money this week so I'm going to do a big freezer shop either at Iceland or Farmfoods to stock them both up again.

Second spend of the month comes in at £12.83 - too early for real YS bargains but did get some YS roast beef(8 slices) for 65p and 6 pack crumpets for 38p. Rest was on wonky veg and savers range tinned veg, beans and dog food.
Took DF as well and ended up with 'net gain' (thanks for that term!) of half a pack of dwarf beans and half a cooked chicken as he lives alone and will not use them up.
Noticed the Xmas tubs of choc are out already!!

Mummygems sounds like we are in a similar sized family and in the first month of itemising my shopping I saved more than £100 on what I normally spend. Went pearshaped in the holidays though. So it is possible!
Pamsdish - yes I have a slow cooker and normally use at least once per week but this week has been HECTIC as only got back from holidays late Sunday night. Will get back on it.
Annoyingly I need to pop to Aldi for a couple of bits: milk, eggs, a small pizza for DD packup, frozen blueberries and apples. Posting this so I stick to this list prior to main shop tomorrow. Going to meal plan tonight. Never include lunches/breakfast in meal plan so will trial this as well.Grocery Challenge Jul £380.75 Aug £637 Sep £539.82 Oct £53.43 / £475
