  • Hi all.

I have done several shops already and only the first week!! Total spent £160 in lidl, sainsburys and poundstretcher. Hoping to be better next week to bring it back on track.
  • I’ve not been on here for ages!
I’m taking back the reins on our food budget. Dh has tried but I feel I’m lost at sea with a broken oar.
We never know what is in and what to eat anymore so I will have a word in his ear later and draw the food shopping cash out.
I need to do an inventory to see what we have need but am aiming for £300 for the rest of the month
That is for 3 adults and an 11year old boy with hollow legs!
  • Much better thanks thriftwizard, I hope you don't get it too badly!

£4.58 budget spend today so £51.6/£240 spent so far

I've just realised it's day 10/31 for me as my month starts on the 28th, and I'm no where near a third of the way through my total yet so a good start to the month :):)
  • Hi

Currently at £85.35/£400 after the main weekly spend last Saturday and a couple of extra top ups for bread, nappies and wipes.

Next shop on Saturday, got to try and keep it as low as possible.

    Thanks, More tea please
  • Thank you all for your fab ideas for the cake for 15! I am coeliac so find it hard to even bake with normal flour but I have found a GF chocolate cake mix in the back of the cupboard - no idea where it even came from but I am not complaining as it says it only needs butter, milk and eggs to make! However it does say to make it in two cake tins (which I don't own) but I do have a square silicone pan... do you think it would work if I did it in that? Would I need to do it in two separate batches? It also says to make an icing but I am not sure how to do that either (as you can tell I am not a master baker:rotfl:). I will do some searching today and will hopefully be able to cobble together something on Sunday to bring in on Monday. What do you normally transport your cakes in?

Major victory for me this week - no top up shops :T! This may seem ridiculous victory to some but every week around Wednesday/Thursday I would pop into the shops to pick up the things I eat every day that have run out - yogurt, fruit, rice cakes etc. However this week I have forced myself to be more creative and use what is in the fridge instead! I think it will save me around £10/15 a week which will be amazing!

Going to plan meals & grocery shop this lunch time and get it done this evening. Fingers crossed for another week of staying within budget!

  • Took a £5 note to Waitrose to find something nice for pudding this evening (I have a friend coming round). I was just thinking something light to finish off, and found Cadburys individual trifles reduced to a pound for 2. Perfect!
Kept it to a £1 spend, and had my travel mug to take advantage of the free coffee as well.
Because it's fun to have money!

Eeek, another £60 gone at the market today, and I'd expect some more - say £20 - to go over the weekend. Then it'll be belt-tightening for the rest of the month. Which will be somewhat more do-able than it has been for nearly a year, what with at least one son living at home since last November, and two of them for a fair amount of that! Somehow the girls are a lot cheaper to feed, not just because they're pescatarians; they don't snack in the same way & will make their own snacks when they do - for example, DD2 has just turned out a perfect batch of delicious Turkish shortbreads, now cooling on the kitchen table. In the meantime, DS3 has wandered off to the supermarket & come back with a loaf of French bread & a large packet of crisps, and is raiding the fridge for accompaniments!

Usual Friday market and Sainsbobs top-up shop today - £7.20 in the market and £23.98 sm. This last was bumped up by buying a joint of silverside beef but that will be turned into several meals for us and some will be frozen for future use. In addition, I had x5 ys spends saving £2.58 (x2 individual S&K pies, x6 mini pain au chocolate, x6 pancakes for 34p and a whole black pudding - all in the freezer now) and x3 promo items.

    Total spends for Week 1 = £88.48/£140  with x5 NSDs. :)

Our 3 DGSs are here tomorrow and have requested pizza. Not a problem as I have everything needed in stock. :D

It's really interesting reading how everyone deals with their budgets and it goes to show there is no wrong or right way. The important thing is that it works for YOU. ;)
