    Interesting.
My parents actually WANTED a smartmeter (only because they previously had to climb a ladder to take readings) yet Eon didn't bother turning up on the first two occasions they'd made appointments...
£30 was offered when they complained
2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shading
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end
    MFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07
    2021 £1250.00, 2022 £1500.00, 2023 £1500, 2024 £1350
    2025 target = £1200, YTD £9190

Hello paragon909 and thank you for switching to us.

With our Smart Saver v5 tariff, part of the terms is that you agree to be contacted about having smart meters installed. Smart meters are optional and you can turn them down if you wish. At this point, our advisor will talk to you about the options we've available at that particular time.

This tariff is also available to customers who already have smart meters as well those whose properties are currently ineligible for them but agree to be contacted when they become available in their regions.

Hope this explains paragon909. Let me know if you need any more details as happy to help.

They are not fitting SMETS2 meters yet ..

You can see a full list of all suppliers by region who are currently rolling out SMET2 meters in this thread.
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5883896/smart-meter-compatability
(there may be suppliers fitting the odd SMET 2 meter as part of preliminary trials, the the list covers the roll out)

As of Jan 2018, of the millions of smart meters fitted to residential properties, only 80 were classed as SMET2
SMET2 rollout is not scheduled to begin until October 2018
    https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/energy/2018/02/just-80-of-the-uks-8m-smart-meters-guaranteed-to-stay-smart-if-you-switch

Thjere have also been reports that SMET2 may not deliver all the features currently promised

Also, possibly with the continuous failure to meet any previous timings & promises, as well as other reasons mention, the CAB are now calling on the Government to extend the program to 2023, as they consider the current deadline of 2020 unfeasible (at least to do it with any chance of success)

And you realise that you cost each supplier 80 quid every time you decide not to be in? which is an added cost to the already spiralling smart meter roll-out budget. Hats off to you for thinking its no big deal.
It s definitely no big deal and payback for all the time for when BG meter fitters banged on my door without my permission to even attempt to fit a smart meter.
When one finally got the message and came on a day when I was nt going to lose a days pay, the muppet came on Saturday and could nt do the job because my gas supply had lead piping involved .guess what ?, the plonker never had the right fitting so walked out without even an apology. I had lost £100 that Saturday morning..Payback time !
You are getting on your high horse with the wrong bloke on here Mr BG meter fitter.
I ve been following you people around for 20 years listening to the dirty tricks you lot get up to from long standing BG customers so don`t you preach to me. You re on dodgy ground. I have more knowledge than you what your colleagues get up to to make their day easier and spoil their customers day.
Your lot could nt give a hoot about customer services and routinely lie to BG customers or don`t turn up repeatedly for appointments .
They also lie to customers and make an excuse up to get out of doing jobs that they are too lazy (or fat ) to attempt to do because the meter is in a bit of a bad spot, even though the customer would have lost money taking time off work or losing a days holiday.
A lousy £25 compo does nt get anywhere near their loss, thats if they knew they could claim it..
So yes, definitely don t answer the door if suppliers meter fitting teams turn up and you do not want to comply in having a SMETS1 meter installed

£80 for turning up at a property and doing nothing?
Great work if you can get it. Where do I sign up?

I see Ryan Air will let me and my partner have a return journey each to, say, Portugal or Latvia for less.

Perhaps you shouldn't tar everyone with the same brush. With all that experience, you must be pretty set in your ways.

No one gets the 80 quid, its the 80 quid in loss of working time.

I m not tarring all meter fitters of course, there will be the majority of good fitters around prepared to " go the extra mile " and work long hours to fulfil their quotas ,but we have had hundreds of complaints of no-shows on here over the years.
It would nt be too bad if all suppliers automatically sent a £25/£30 compensation to the customer but they wait for the customer to complain. I know by experience that most customers do not complain, because they are not aware of any compensation.
All these no- shows by meter fitters cost the industry and its added to the costs just like the smart meter roll out. . Your little gripe, where you seem to have plucked a figure of £80 out of the air is a definite "pot/kettle/black from the meter fitters travelling throughout the UK failing to arrive at the appointed time or failing to wait long enough at the door or not even managing to find the correct property.
I remember one disgruntled BG customer who s meter fitter failed to show the previous day who said he was £200 down on the lost day and when I knocked for a visit he said he was getting ready to punch me ! ... true story I assure you

You said that you know more than you let on, but you keep blaming the fitter for not turning up. At BG, this is simply not the case.

Presumably you won't have the smart meter tariff you requested.

Contact the supplier and arrange an alternative tariff. If not, I suspect the supplier will but you on their deemed tariff ... typically their most expensive one.

Just to confirm Skools_Out. Customers applying for our Smart Saver v5 tariff will be able to have the product even if they don't have a smart meter. We won't default them to our standard Energy Plan if they don't have these meters when they switch tariff.

By accepting this tariff, they agree to be contacted about smart meters at a later date.

    Hope this explains.
