My parents actually WANTED a smartmeter (only because they previously had to climb a ladder to take readings) yet Eon didn't bother turning up on the first two occasions they'd made appointments...
£30 was offered when they complained
Hello jackieblack and I'm sorry we weren't able to attend the appointments arranged for your parents.
Sounds like we've made a payment under the Guaranteed Standards of Service. Not sure but, depending on the circumstances, they might be due another payment as you say there were two missed appointments.
There are certain standards of service customers can expect when dealing with us including doing what we say we will. If we don't, we'll make a payment of £30 to say sorry. Where it's our fault a meter appointment fails, we'll pay £30 within 10 working days regardless of whether or not there's a complaint. If we don't do this within the 10 working days, we'll make the original payment plus an additional payment of £30 because it's late. There's more information about this on our website under Guaranteed Standards of Service.
I'm not saying this applies to your parent's situation as I don't know the full details of what happened and why we couldn't attend as planned. It's certainly worth asking the question though.
Hope this helps jackieblack.

Hi Malc just one question reference smart meters are they the new second generation please.
Hello MoneyMate and thanks for your question.
We started fitting SMETS2 meters earlier this year and have just passed the 2,500 mark. We're continuing to train more technicians on SMETS2 with the aim of moving to SMETS2 installations only later this year.
Additionally, many of the SMETS1 meters we've already installed will be updated remotely so they're managed in the same way as SMETS2. This includes being able to work and communicate following a change of supplier. Where possible, we're looking to have this done by the end of next year.
At the moment, it's not possible to ask specifically for SMETS2 meters as it depends on the availability of suitably trained technicians in particular regions. As above, this will change the further we go into the roll-out.
Hope this explains MoneyMate. Let me know if you've any more questions as happy to help.

Malc,
Quick question. Will the remote upgrade of the SMETS1 to SMETS2 meters include all the SMETS1 meters you've installed including those of customers who are now no longer with E.ON?0 -

Not all youravinalarrrf. There are some early smart installations (mainly from 2014 and before) where this won't be possible. These meters can't be enrolled into the Data Communications Company (DCC) and will need to be replaced before they can use the latest smart technology.
Once meters have been successfully added to the DCC, they'll be able to work as smart regardless of the supplier.
Hope this explains youravinalarrrf. Let me know if you've any more questions as happy to help.
Malc
PS/ I know you know what I mean youravinalarrrf but for anyone reading who may not be aware; the DCC provides the communications infrastructure that handles the UK's smart meter data.“Official Company Representative

Malc,
Thanks for the reply.
Am I correct to assume from your reply that if E.ON installed the SMETS1 meter then it is E.ON who are responsible for ensuring that the meter is added into the Data Communications Company (DCC) database to make them SMETS2 compatible regardless of who the customer is now receiving their energy from?0 -
A question for the rep. Do other companies (EDF) smart meters work with your products?0

this was covered on another thread in relation to switching from Ovo to E.On
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5863827/ovo-to-eon-smart-meter-issues
Even though both companies use the same type of meter, and Ovo suggest your meter will still be smart if you switch to E.On, E.On are saying an Ovo meter won't work if you switch to E.On.0 -

To be honest youravinalarrrf, I'm not sure how this will all be done so I've just asked the question. Will let you know as soon as I receive an answer.

Hello HalloweenJack.
At the moment, this is very much as my colleague Helena says in the post Nick_C links to - thanks Nick_C. It's likely another supplier's meter will lose many of its smart features following a switch to us. This won't always be the case.
The SMETS2 installations and SMETS1 upgrades we've spoken about in this and other threads is changing the situation daily. It's early days yet but the more advanced these roll-outs become, the greater the likelihood meters will retain smart features following a change of supplier.
Hope this explains the current position HalloweenJack. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.
