Is this the current Labour line dredging up irrelevant comments from all and sundry. Only the negotiations matter. Anything else is merely speculation and opinion.

The comments are not irrelevant as the kind of relationship people want with the EU is pretty relevant to how the government negotiates.

Of course its speculation and opinion. Isn’t that what this place is for?

And I have no idea whether it’s a Labour line, I certainly don’t come into this with any party political angle

Well lets try to clear this up yet again, can you show me where Paterson said these things?

Can you show me where any of these quotes where made during the referendum campaign??

Not the same quote but similar from 2015.

There are various options which can deliver prosperity, increase jobs … which is as members of the single market…It isn’t either remain in the European Union or leap into the dark. There are other options.”

Google it and pick your source for the exact quote, the precise wording and context is not important and we're never going to *clear it up* because people clearly interpret it differently.

Whatever he or others meant, the point is that it wasn’t explicitly clear that leaving meant leaving the single market. Had it been spelled out on the ballot paper I suspect it would have tipped the result the other way.

I voted leave a long with many others that I know and as far as im concerned leaving the SM and CU was made explicitly clear by both sides of the argument..

I have googled it and this best explains how these quotes were taken out of context..

That's fine but other people clearly read different things into it. And really, neither side should have speculated what kind of Brexit it would be. The vote was only leave or remain. A simple question and people shouldn't imply that it means anything other than in or out.

Well to make it simple, out means out, not half in or part in.....

Its the remainers that now claim to know the minds of every leave voter. Its the remainers that now claim we didn't want to be completely out, only partially out, or some wanted to be half out, some two thirds out and some completely out..

All leave voters I know and now most remain voters I know just want us to hurry up and get out, good-bye to it all...

Just on a side note, remain voters also claim that a lot of leave voters only voted leave because they felt left behind, that the establishment wasn't listening to them anymore. Nice one, so lets tell them that we will ignore them once again and make them rerun the vote. Great thinking that.....

They are all completely taken out of context as has been proven many times here, its one of the reasons the remoaners lost the vote in the first place, so many lies, will they ever learn..

Not enough lies it seems. The 350 million a week figure was certainly taken out of context. Lets fund the NHS was a lie.

Stop drinking the kool aid, the establishment conned you into voting for brexit.

Well it's hard to know because some prominent leave campaigners were saying before the referendum that we wouldn't be leaving the single market. Boris Johnson said that by voting to leave we could still stay but have a stronger hand to get our own way in the EU.

I've spoken to lots of leave voters who have all manner of fanciful ideas about what leaving the EU meant.

What damaged you so much to feel like that?

I agree a lot of people are annoyed with how long it's taking. Like a victim of mugging just wants it over and done with, not because they want to be mugged but because the process is horrible. The process will be horrible, it was always going to be a long drawn out process & this is barely even the beginning. No matter how much the flag waiving xenophobes want to just be done with foreigners telling us what to do, if you want to trade with someone then you have to meet their standards.

It's going to be hell when they figure out trading under WTO terms gives foreigners even more say. At least the economy shrinkage will reduce the amount of trade we do internationally.

The NHS is being funded though. The Government has no money. Only ours.
