Even if it was explicitly advisory? And split almost exactly down the middle?
I'd otherwise agree with you; the government should be expected to take the result and do something useful with it, though that might not involve actually leaving.
    ...

If that was explicit, it wasn't explicit enough even amongst the prominent campaigners, never mind the voters.

I just think it was stupidly thought out. There were clearly 3 possible outcomes :-
    a) overwhelming vote to Remain
    b) overwhelming vote to Leave
    c) clear split - and a call to action to find out why.

How do you know that leaving the Union is going to offer the solution people desire, if you don't fully understand their desires?

Anyway, all in the past I know. I'd like to see a referendum in EU-land (or at least a major poll) to find out if they would want us back ! We don't really know that either.

I agree entirely. Though I don't think they'd be allowed to reject us from cancelling A50, they'd be entitled to have a referendum about us re-joining in future.

They are all completely taken out of context as has been proven many times here, its one of the reasons the remoaners lost the vote in the first place, so many lies, will they ever learn..

Some may have been out of context (Farage), but some clearly weren’t!

Anyone who thinks only one side lied just shows their bias is so great they are unable to make a rational assessment.

I genuinely can't think of a context that invalidates Farages point. I know he was talking about Norway as a stepping stone to true Brexit, but that's still an argument for Norway

Yeah I’m probably being a bit too generous! Just think his was less blatant than some of the others, eg Hannan and Paterson who specifically said Brexit didn’t mean leaving the single market.

I'm not googling it for there are plenty of clips on Farage stance on Norway and then you can judge for yourself.

Well lets try to clear this up yet again, can you show me where Paterson said these things?

Can you show me where any of these quotes where made during the referendum campaign??

Google it and pick your source for the exact quote, the precise wording and context is not important and we're never going to *clear it up* because people clearly interpret it differently.

Whatever he or others meant, the point is that it wasn’t explicitly clear that leaving meant leaving the single market. Had it been spelled out on the ballot paper I suspect it would have tipped the result the other way.

Is this the current Labour line dredging up irrelevant comments from all and sundry. Only the negotiations matter. Anything else is merely speculation and opinion.
