I do, that's why I'd rule out that option as well. The 3rd one it is then, stay in some kind of customs union!0 -
France shares a ~700 km border with a non EU country.
Any guesses which country folks?
Yep! Brazil
French Guiana and Brazil. Seems they share a high level of cooperation though. It shows it can be done, and obviously the EU are quite happy ...hmm, wonder why.0 -

You are missing the point then. The Irish Government is approaching this from a political angle. Nothing at all to do with trade. Parliamentry report was published in August to this effect. Though no surprise this was driven by Sinn Fein.
Take a holiday to Kerry. Visit a few bookshops. You'll find them enlightening. Certainly opened my eyes. As to the extent of feelings and who the heroes are.
Only option the Irish will accept is 3. They then say a referendum is inevitable........0 -

But its not just about what the Irish will accept, how is it possible to have two different customs areas without a border? I'm not insisting that I'm right by the way, I genuinely want to know how people think this is possible!
I'm currently looking into the French Guiana/Brazil one as mentioned above.0 -
and this border is open is it?
Do you mean officially or in practice?
"Nearly half of all Brazilians in France live in the overseas region of French Guiana, including many who have crossed the 730 km border illegally."
...from wikipedia.
If you've worked in Paris and chat to people, it won't be long til you meet someone from Brazil. Why don't you go on a weekend break and ask them0 -

What has that got to do with it? He said
over half the electorate decided that it was too much and wanted out
Is that true?'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

Letter in today's Guardian from a Northern Ireland citizen. Makes you think...people who voted Brexit feel their rights are being trampled on! What about people like this:-
'The situation we are in now has been foreseen for the past 2 years but the Government, and Teresa May in particular, seems to have an uncanny ability to not see the obvious! Johnson & Davis do not understand or care about Northern Ireland, its people or its economy, and never have. We are faced with having all the achievements of the past 20 years ripped up without our consent. For those of us in Northern Ireland the issue of the border is not just about economics; it is a major aspect of everyday life, it is an integral part of our identities and culture - we are variously Irish, Northern Irish and British but the one thing that brought us all together is that we are all European! Our local journalism on UTV and BBC has picked this up but it hasn't made it into the larger debate; we didn't vote for the Government (because we cant!), we didn't vote for Brexit, and we don't have a functioning executive to act on our behalf. Oh and just in case not everyone has realised it the DUP is not acting on behalf of the NI electorate either - even the thought of US agri-food imports will completely destroy whats left of our economy. Would the last person to leave please turn out the lights ( that's if we have any electricity!), Thank you.'0 -
we didn't vote for Brexit
In a society sometimes you'd get even though you had not voted for it. This is how democracy works.we are all European!
We shall remain European irrespective of Brexit as Britain is not leaving Europe (and it can't)Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0
