I am so gutted that it has fallen so much since I last checked about a month ago. I was looking to get some for my sister's birthday and it was 1.9 ish
I am off the NY in Jan 09 so have all my fingers (and toes) crossed that it picks up by then. I never really take much cash at all only about £100 worth at most then stick everything on credit card and pay it off afterwards as I heard that you get a better rate that way.
I very much enjoyed the whole half price shopping that it's been like the last few times I have be in the USA and was looking forward to stocking up again in Jan, but won't get as much now, rubbish! Hopefully the sales will help when I am there......0 -
Dear fellas,
I saw an exchange rate board of "£55 = $100" near Tottenham court road tube station today. (coversion rate applied 1.81)
Is the place safe to buy ? Any idea/experiences? Please share thanks0 -
why would some one offer an exchange rate higher than the actual exchange rate - seems risky to me0
-
It depends which actual exchange rate you are comparing it to.
Also, it saves them converting dollars back into pounds (at a worse rate than $100/£55at their local Natwest.illegitimi non carborundum0 -

Just a courtesy follow up
I did go there, £55=$100 was the buy rate displayed!
£57=$100 was the selling rate (@1.75) yesterday. Still beats travelex and M&S online so I would recommend the place !Dear fellas,

Just wondering why yesterday the exchange rate was 1.75dollars to pound and travelex were offering 1.72 yet today it has gone back up to 1.79 and travelex are offering 1.71.
Will this get updated again tomorow?
And my folks bought dollars for there trips one of which is my mother and me to New York and didn't ask if i wanted any. Trauma was gonna buy at 1.83 but just didn't get round to it.
I guess it proves that old saying, if you snooze you lose0 -
Just for comparision, as of this minute (or close of play ysterday more likely), TEG offering 1.74, CCE 1.72, Travelex 1.70, M&S 1.69, Halifax 1.67.
If you use Travelex, make sure you invoke their Price Promise.illegitimi non carborundum0 -
hi all,
been using the site for ages but only today decided to join today for some reason.
im off to the states for new years and too in a position whether to buy currency now or waiting to see what happens nearer the time.
im thinking and hoping (and not too sure how many of you share this thought) that after the november elections, surely there will a little boost on the market which should give up a better exchange for the pound???
