Could you explain please how you can reserve order and not pay straight away. Seems like a great idea just didn't think it was possible.

You put the order in and then send them a BACS payment within 4 working days. The order guarantees the rate but the BACS payment shouldn't take 4 days so you give yourself a day or 2 to keep an eye on the rates. If you don't pay the BACS they just cancel the order.

When you get less $ to the pound is best for you. So at the moment you get around $1.83 to every pound. It will be best for you if the went down.

Alternatively if you see the rate expressed as £ rather than dollars you want that to be higher. i.e at the moment every dollar gets you 55p, so you want that to rise so you get more £ for your dollar.

Hi im off to new york on the 11th dec. Do people think that the rate will increase after an election and the run up to it? Dont know whether to buy some when it gets to about 1.87 or wait til after the election

No one can say, it was all doom and gloom on the exchange front until Lehmans went pop and AIG nearly followed them. Now people realise how poor the US economy really compared to the UK and the dollar has weakened again.

It depends where you think the next bad news will come from, over here or over there.

I cant see the election having any effect at all really.

2weeks back you would have jumped on 1.84. What's so special about 1.87?

Travelex order online and collect at airport BUT make sure you claim back the difference to the best rate available (usually Thomas Exchange Global) using the Travelex price match promise.

i got a good rate from fairfx.com. ordered at 11:30am on tuesday. arrived less than 24 hours later by registered mail...
