How does everyone here work out the best rate for them?

For instance, I could go and get some $ from TEG for 1.76 in person. However, that would mean getting a tube which would cost about £3-4. I could order some at Travelex at 1.74 and collect them tomorrow at Heathrow - I'm getting a car that's been paid for so I won't incur any extra expense.

For the amount I want (£250) I would get $440 at TEG and $435 at Travelex, so for the sake of £2 (after travel etc) I'm wondering whether it's worth it!!

Anyone else ever have these complicated methods of money saving on exchange rates!?

$200 went for £117 on ebay the other day, i was watching it to try and get a good deal. but obviously you would have fees.
Depending on how much you bought at and were from, depends on were to sell.
sometimes the place you bought the currency from buys back commision free all be it at a slightly lower rate. I would ask around family friends and work ccollegues see if anyone is looking to buy dollars, that way you would both get a good deal.
  • I can get 1.80 at the mo with a 21 day wait. Dont go away until start of Dec 08 what you reckon do I? dont I? get my currency while i can at that rate? i know nobody knows for definite but lets have your thoughts guys..........

Well its gone to 1.83 today and the exchange places usually load around 4c so I would wait to be honest as you may find its aroudn 1.80 normally by monday.

Place you order now but dont send any cash till around monday afternoon to see what the exchanges are. you may find you can get better than 1.80 by then anyway.
  • Baz i dont understand how you can order now and pay later. If the rate changed before you sent cash would you just cancel???

Could you explain please how you can reserve order and not pay straight away. Seems like a great idea just didn't think it was possible.
  • Saw a company in the newspaper called rationalfx. also got a website https://www.rationalfx.com ..... the rates are better than high street stores but the catch is you need to hold a $ account as they dont do exchange in cash only transfer to the account.

    Today they are trading £1=$1.8295

    Hi, hope someone can help.

I have 2000 points from a survey site to cash in - they work out how much they owe me in dollars, then convert it to pounds to send me a cheque.
When will I benefit most from cashing it in - when the dollar is weak or strong against the pound?
(should be obvious, I know, but my brain just doesn't work like that.)
    Thank you.
