Is it possible that if Hurricane Gustav takes out some of the oil rigs in the gulf and therefore pushing price of oil for a few weeks up at least, could the pounds get stronger?

    Watching this very carefully!

But if you take financial advice for a random guy on the internet then you deserve all you get really. I fixed in and bought my £1000 worth when it was 1.88 and I got 1.84. Im glad I did as rates online will be down to 1.79 come monday if not already. I decide that I would be more gutted if it went to 1.76 and I didnt exchange than I would be if it went back up to 1.96 and I did exchange. I had already lost £80, I didnt want to lose another £80 to make it £160.
    Up to you.

Good advice often mentioned on here....if you're happy with today's rate...exchange half your money now and leave half until when you go.
Now it doesn't matter if the rate rises or drops...what you lose on the one half you'll gain on the other. Risk managed.

    Hi!

I'm going to New York next week and need to exchange some dollars. Are those tourist shops reliable? I've seen one in Piccadilly Circus that sells 100$ for 49£. My main concern is that they might give you fake notes...

    Thanks.

I was a bit worried about this too and in the end found an official bureau de change with a reasonable (better than thomas global exchange) rate by Marble Arch tube. I guess that you could exchange a small amount at one of the tourist shops and check the bills carefully and then decide whether to exchange more there. You obviously have no guarantees in the same way as if you go somewhere more official.

I like thomas global exchange and post out recorded delivery for £5. Would never buy on the high street again - terrible rates!
