Crown currency exchange offered me 1.802 in cash and 1.809 on a currency mastercard thing.

And that was to be delivered in February, so that's definitley one of the best

Oh and I liked their customer service, approach and attitude etc on the phone. Very helpful and very impressed!

the US economy's is not exactly healthy itself at the moment. Most of the articles i have read suggest it will drop a little bit more and then level out. If it does drop then so be it.

there have been a number of occasions during the last 3 years when the pound has suddenly dropped against the dollar and then picked itself us. for example during may 2005 the pound was worth 1.91 dollars yet by July 2005 a period of 2 months it was worth less than 1.73. it went on to bounce back etc. most experts suggest that the natural level of the pound to the dollar is between 1.60 and 1.70.
  • I have been trying to order cash over the phone through the RBS (I have a student royalties account) - and it's probably would have cost me more than I'm saving. >.> Thank god for saynoto0870!

I kept getting trasferred through to the wrong departments, and eventually one lady quoted me $1.72, before telling me I'd get a better rate because of my student account so she put me through to that team, and they quoted me $1.70. Agh! I complained, and the lady gave me a number to call. I've just spoken to them, and they have had me on hold for five minutes before telling me I was at the wrong department again! AGH!!

It was much easier in my pre-moneysaving days when I'd think everywhere was equal and just go with anything. All I'm after is $100, cause I have a caxton card (and the rate on that has nosedived too...)

these small drops of 1-5cents make a big difference when you change up a £1000-£2000, which is what most of us take to the states.
I am so glad I ordered mine at 1.83.
