I'm no expert. My only experience is the last 3 months i've been virtually a permanent feature on this thread as I'm in the middle of (hopefully) moving to the US.
All I can say is buy when you feel confident... If you like the rate.. buy! might be worth buying 50% of your spending money now. That way if it goes up you still win, and if it goes down you know you've got some at a better rate! i use this page to look at rates
http://www.comparetravelmoney.co.uk/index.asp?sort=USD&#compare
If any of us truly knew what the $ was going to do we'd be millionaires by now!
The news that came out a couple of hours ago seems to have been a complete bolt from the blue. As a result the $ has lost it's strength. How long will this last? Who knows?!
The real expert of all things financially and Rugeley travelodge (Inspector Monkfish) will be back at 7am. He might be able to talk to some fellow southern softie shandy drinkers and get the low down. although after seeing the rate shoot up tonight i'm sure he'll be lurking shortly!
right... time for a cold one...0 -
thank you very much, your response is very much appriciated! I think i will have to split the money like you say. enjoy the cold one!0

good evening
interesting day ahead tomorrow
FOMC took the market by surprise with their announcement and weakened the Dollar in the process.
I'll be able to find out more in the morning when i get into the office, but from what i can see, it looks like they just nicked a leaf out of the Bank of England's book...
if you all want to be really zeddy, take a look at Blooomberg TV, Channel 502 on Sky, for some interesting updates. Please take the time to have a look around my Daughter's website www.daisypalmertrust.co.uk

Do we think this can hold? Admittedly over our 2 week holiday it may only make $30 difference - but that is a tank of petrol, or something nice for Mrs Blink.0

thing is, on an FOMC night, we're supposed to stay at the office and wait for the announcement....
...but what usually happens is, we all go out for a long lunch, as we know its FOMC night and we'll have to work late, then we go to the pub at 5pm for a couple more hours, then come back at 7pm for the FOMC announcement at 7.15pm (tonight was 6.15pm as US changed their clocks last week)....
...then we try and trade off the back of any announcement, which is not helped by all the alcohol consumed, and then we all wonder why our P & L in the morning shows a big fat L !!
and this goes on across all trading floors in London every FOMC night!!
tonight i thought nothing of interest could happen as the FED had already cut their rates virtually to Zero, so I came home..... instead it all kicks off !!! :rolleyes:Please take the time to have a look around my Daughter's website www.daisypalmertrust.co.uk
