  • Hi Welshkitty85.

I have been reading your diary and just wanted to say that you have made great progress on your debt in a short space of time! Hope you are giving yourself many congratulations over it. :j

I feel your pain with returning to work from mat leave... I am back in a month but it's coming around far too quickly. Can I ask how your controlled crying went? My DS is a terrible sleeper. I'm considering whether or not to sleep train and whether it is worth the trauma to us both! What was your starting position? I.e X number of wake ups or early starts etc?

    Hello and thank you :)

I go back to full time hours next week :( but I must admit the adult company is a welcome change.

DC3 has been quite inconsistent with his sleeping, sometimes sleeping through 8-6, but then the next night waking 1am, 2am, 4am etc. I got into a habit of rocking him to sleep so think he was sometimes waking and wondering where I had gone. The first night of controlled crying was awful. I sat at the top of the stairs, almost in tears myself, timing 5 minutes, then 7 minutes, 9 minutes...
By night 3 he went down without crying and goes down well most nights now, as long as we are consistent with it. He still sometimes wakes in the night, but now will quite often self soothe and go back to sleep...not always though. He's definitely sleeping better than he used to, but still not as well as I would like :rotfl:
  • The plumber turned up this morning but can't see any signs of a leak. I'm not sure if that's good news or not as now we don't know where the water came from. It's currently dried out, so will just have to wait and see.

After paying off the most expensive loan we've decided to put aside some of the refunded money to pay for a new radiator in the kitchen/dining room. It's a really cold room and is the only one in the house that still has the old style radiator. Hopefully it will pay for itself in the long term, reducing our heating bill and making the house warmer.
  • This morning I made spiced apple chutney with some free apples. I obviously had to taste test it with some cheese and crackers and it's delicious.

This afternoon we took DC3 to an animal farm. It was free entry, but spent £1 on animal feed. It was lovely and sunny and the fresh air has done wonders for my cold.

Nipped into Aldi armed with a shopping list for 5 items and came out £50 lighter . That's what happens when I let DH come shopping!!

I've still got the lurgy :( but thankfully DC3 stayed in bed until 7 today and then DH got up with him so I had a decent lie in. We walked to the orchard for more fresh air and collected loads of apples and a cup full of blackeberries (all the big juicy ones had gone). I'm planning to make apple pie, apple muffins, apple compote and apple & blackberry crumble.

I've just been looking over my finances and realised the 0% comes to and end for around £4000 of my BC balance in May 2019. To pay this off I would need to make payments of £575 a month between now and then. I've increased my direct debit slightly to £200 per month, but this is obviously short by £375 EVERY MONTH  . So, I need to concentrate any overpayments to this debt to pay off as much as possible before the 0% ends.

I'm tempted to keep an extra money in the savings account for the time being to earn a little interest and the new pay it off in a lump sum before May.
  • My cold has now turned into a sore thought and annoying cough. I was hoping to be better for work tomorrow, but that's not looking likely :(. I have finished my phased return now and go back to my full hours tomorrow.

We've had the heating on and off over the weekend and there's still no sign of the leak. I'm just hoping it doesn't reappear in the depths of winter.

We cut the grass over the weekend and are hoping that won't need doing again now. I really need to get my spring bulbs planted but just haven't felt upto it this weekend.

Today I have fuelled my car for the month. But it's my first full month back in work since buying this car so I've no idea if it will last a full month or if I'll have to top it up.

I've also done a huge shop today and am hoping to only need small top up shops for the rest of October. Today I cooked a roast dinner. I also batch cooked 2 tubs of chicken in mushroom sauce, 3 bags of mashed potato, shredded gammon, chicken pieces and mini apple pies. I also sliced gammon for sandwiches. I'm hoping to batch cook curry, lasagne and bolognaise on my next day off.

I enjoy cooking so don't find it too much of a chore and love seeing the freezer full

I had an awful nights sleep last night and kept waking myself up coughing and spluttering :(. Then DC3 woke at 5am so I carried him into my bed for cuddles. I really struggled in work today and felt my eyes closing a few times :rotfl:.

Survey sites have been quite generous today. I've cashed out a £10 voucher from SB and have had 3 PA surveys.

Hoping for a decent nights sleep tonight.
