to be fair, its none of your business to comment on the workers state of emotions - so what if she's really loud about voicing her feelings.

that said, they shouldn't really let there emotions come out on the job. it is unprofessional but still, you need to get over it, you have no right to officially complain - unless its about being kept waiting. thats the only real fault i can see.

This forum is getting worse, someone cant just come on here and post something without twenty people jumping down their throat. This is the Consumer Vent Board - OP is venting. I don't know if there are restrictions or criteria for posting a vent but OP didn't like their service and all OP got was - well dont shop there etc. Well lets go on to the DFW forum and tell all the people on there asking for help not to get into debt in the first place!! Maybe OP does have to shop there, maybe they live somewhere where B & Q is the only place to get what they need, maybe she was taking back something for a friend. You dont know so just leave people alone - if you dont have anything useful or helpful to say just move on!!!

I have been here a lot longer than you (by all accounts) and it has always been the case that in the vent board you get people agreeing with you or disagreeing as they see fit. It helps to put your complaint into perspective if you are shown (by the replies) that your attitude was unreasonable.
  • I agree with the OP - it was really unprofessional behaviour of the staff. Though obviously B&Q must be crap employers too.

I've been in a similar situation (I think it was WHSmith) where one of the staff was having a bloody breakdown in full public view (split up with her boyfriend or some such malarky). It was really embarrassing, not to mention unprofessional.

Have to agree with the OP on this as well.

I think that such behaviour is very unprofessional of the staff - the hanging around talking to each other, the staff member ranting in tears and the staff member serving the OP criticising their own management.

What happened to professional pride? Regardless of your job/salary level, surely everyone is expected to carry out their tasks with an appropriate degree of professionalism and it sounds like none of these managed that.

Theres a vast amount of difference from doing one job to another where it can just cross a line, are you taking this into account? Not every job is like yours, some can be far worse!

I agree there are two schools of thought on this one but I would expect a grown adult to be able to control their emotions to a certain degree or at least go to a back room somewhere to vent their anger. Saying that they are "going to smash the place up" which was a comment made by the staff member I omitted to mention in my original post is going a bit far.

I was venting my frustration on the board as it was a bad day for me but I didn't carry on in the store venting my frustration, I just made a quiet comment to the advisor serving me to let her know I didn't really think the behaviour and level of service was appropriate - I could have lost control as the advisor did and starting ranting at the top of my voice but I didn't - perhaps those posters that think I am in the wrong don't think I am entitled to a bad day. I'd just dropped a heavy door on my head taking it from a rack above my head in B & Q, it turned out to be a bit too heavy for me ( I'm only a short !!!!:D ) but I did it because I was in a rush to get what I needed and no-one from B & Q was around to help - I didn't mention that in my original post. No-where in my post did I say I was going to make a formal complaint, it was just annoying hence "consumer vent". Yes, I feel sorry for people who work for terrible employers and by the sounds of it B & Q are but there are ways of dealing with it as an employee and shouting the odds on the shop floor in front of customers is not it in MHO.

When I went there, I didn't expect that to happen so telling me to shop elsewhere is not really fair plus it is the only local DIY store in the vicinity and I needed to return a faulty product already purchased. I could hardly take it back to another store could I?

I thought I was polite in waiting patiently and not being rude at the outset demanding to be served - but my patience wore thin after I was then subjected to rudeness from the advisor serving me whilst the advisor started ranting whilst I was being served. One of the other advisors hanging around should have extracted the ranting advisor from the scene quietly but they chose to let it carry on.

Oh and having got the items purchased home, I've discovered there is a piece missing to the door handle I bought so guess what, another trip to the returns desk for another faulty item

One thing I learned about B&Q is never go in there if your in a rush, be prepared to wait ages at the till.

My OH reckons B&Q stands for "buy it & queue up"
