B & Q debacle - staff in tears

I went to B & Q today to return a faulty item and buy some DIY stuff. I went to the returns desk to return my faulty item and stood in line - or should I say, I stood behind the one customer being served when there were four or five B & Q staff behind the counter. I stood and I stood whilst they chatted amongst themselves when finally a staff member asked, in complete surprise, whether they could help me? I would have thought it would have been pretty obvious really, I don't stand at a customer service returns desk with a box in my hand for no reason. :rotfl: But, that's not really the reason for my annoyance. I proceeded to explain why I was returning my item etc when another staff member starts kicking off behind the counter, she was shouting about how rubbish the management at B & Q were, no one would help her, they never return her calls and that she'd had enough! She was in tears and ranting on and then announced to her colleagues she was going home as she had had enough! TBH, I don't go shopping to have to witness that, going to B & Q is stressful enough thank you. When I made a comment to the advisor serving me she said "yeah the management are terrible here, you don't get any help" or words to that effect. It forced me to retort that being a customer of B & Q isn't much pleasure either. How unprofessional is that debacle?

  • Yes it is unprofessional but it sounds as if things at B&Q had reached breaking point for that particular member of staff.

Personally I only find B&Q stressful when I go there with hubby!

What a grumpy old sod you are paintpot. AFAICS your only valid arguement is that the staff who think management are crap, are equally crap themselves for standing round chatting instead of serving the line of customers waiting. But that only applies if you really were standing waiting for a long time.

Having a go at them because one staff member had finally had enough of management and said so out loud infront of customers is rediculous IMO. Seems like your values of social etiquette are pre-war.

Who cares if they show their feelings with the customer standing there?

Plus being a customer of b&q gets you a no quibble refund within 28days, they don't have to do that you know.

Yes I was grumpy because I was in rush as I work hard for a living and needed to buy products to refurbish a house and had an appointment to get to so didn't have time to stand around waiting whilst they all chatted amongst themselves oblivious to the fact that a customer needed serving when that is what they are employed and paid to do.

I don't really want to know about their internal management problems and have to put up with being treated in a rude manner because they're all in a strop. If they don't like their job they should go and work somewhere else or take it up with the management not on the customer!

Yes they do if they if the product is broken! I wasn't returning it because I had changed my mind.

One thing I learned about B&Q is never go in there if your in a rush, be prepared to wait ages at the till.

IN fairness I never had any problems with the staff although I do get the impression that they are treated poorly just a feeling I get

They weren't taking it up with the customer, you just decided to join in!

The member of staff had had enough so what? Sounds like she was going to get another job anyway. The complaint you've made is like complaining that people look ill in doctors waiting areas. If you haven't noticed the rest of the world is actually human which means at times we can have emotions, would you prefere a world ran by robots?

Or, you could have walked upto the CS counter, and said "Hello, Can I return a faulty Item please?", and they probably would have postponed their debate about management to serve you! At the very least you could've coughed loudly to get their attention rather than standing and waiting!

If I got to witness something like that in B&Q, I would have stood patiently and enjoyed the comedy! I do like things that make a dull shopping trip more exciting!!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Customers only have to go there for a few minutes ... pity the staff who have to spend a whole day there.

And if you don't like the way you are treated, you are equally at liberty to shop somewhere else.

I like to think I'd have a bit of sympathy for the staff concerned in this situation, or at least consider their welfare a somewhat higher priority than my paint.
