I noticed this, however my son in law banks with TSB, and he wasn't charged for cash withdrawals from Sabadell's ATM's. Apparently they are part of the same banking group.0

TSB in the UK don't publicise that benefit to the best of my knowledge.
Worth investigating further methinks.

The better terminology for these Over-The-Top ATM charges are 'Surcharges' as the ATM owner will usually charge the card issuer via the card scheme anyway.
Last time in NY, I used TD Bank or McDonalds (Actors FCU) ATMs are they were either free of surcharge or $1.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

It might be worth checking whether your son in law opted for DCC and allowed Sabadell to convert at their own rates, which in general (I believe) does not involve the ATM surcharge.
If not, would it be a better "bottom line" deal for the cardholder to authorise DCC transaction rates for ATM usage where that option removes the surcharge element ?
The other obvious questions is - how does the cardholder know in advance when the ATM surcharge is not applied if he/she elects for DCC ?
That apart - I called TSB and they advised that charges would still be applied using their debit card at a Sabadell ATM.
Don't shoot the messenger if that is not the case - but the call centre assistant seemed clued up on what was being asked.0 -

Sabadell might not charge, but TSB certainly will!
TSB charge a non-sterling transaction fee of 2.99% to the value of the withdrawal and a non-sterling cash fee of 1.5% (min £2, max £4.50): defined by MSE as a "card from hell"!0 -
Just back from Lanzarote - Caixa was still free for me (using Nationwide FlexPlus card).0
