I have had a policy cancelled by Hastings (Advantage Insurance) and a malicious claim from a former "friend" (he stated he'll "f*** me right up" when he told me he was going to claim) on my current policy despite stating I would get it fixed outside insurance, it was a small dent, not worth mentioning, and barely visible, car was covered in dents and scratches anyway. They since sold this car and got a new one with the payout from my policy of around £700.

My issue is that my current policy runs out in 3 weeks and I am worried that because of the two above issues, I will not be able to find cover anymore. It might be worth mentioning that I had another run in with another car, while my bike was parked up and unattended in an ASDA car park, driver reversed in to it then drove off (coward!)

I am not sure what to do as it seems that nobody is prepared to insure me, and trying to explain that my insurance was cancelled for a ridiculous reason that Hastings fabricated, I am now unable to find another policy.

Can someone please see what I can do to be able to be able to insure my bike again please?

Thanks again.

Did you hit your former friends car?
If so did he agree to going outside of insurace?
Did you inform your insurer of the incident (even if you have no intent to claim you are meant to do so).

Once you've had your insurance cancelled you have had it cancelled, regardless of if you think it's harsh or a silly reason.

You could complain about the cancellation, but if you hit someone's car and didn't inform your insurance company you'll be be pretty screwed (as it is a requirement of most/all policies), and the choice of making a claim or "going outside of insurance" is down to the non fault party not yours.

Unfortunately you've now had two incidents, one at fault and one 3rd party drive off which will likely have had an effect on your insurance premiums even without the cancellation.

It seems Hastings cancelled because you failed to disclose the incident? Not a cleaver thing to do.

  • Cancellation was BEFORE hitting a former "friends" car, long before by about a full year! Apologies that I did not clarify this in my original post.

    Story doesn't really make sense

Hastings cancel the policy because they believe OP was using a bike for courier purposes yet listen to the call and accept he only asked for a quote because he was seeing if it was affordable? They then give him compensation but don't reverse the cancellation? OP then has a rant on the phone and may or may not have sworn at a staff member which results in Hastings cancelling the policy again?

OP - what happened to the complaint / FOS?

Why is your policy still cancelled if they reversed it?

That "guy" has a name thank you.

"nielmcl" has offered some clarification for you... Hope it helps.

Anyway, just called up Hastings, and spent about 30 minutes on the phone to a lady who has stated that they only require a declaration with them that I had a policy cancelled with them. So hopefully, I will only have to pay around £150 for a new policy at this stage, will update once I have it all sorted. Thanks for the help so far.

Nothing, they essentially agreed with Hastings because they produced some fabricated phone calls. That "proved" I was being abusive when I have the calls recorded and they only show I was getting frustrated. There is a very big difference as other users might agree.

Not saying this is what you did, but my wife works in customer support and a lot of customers who are frustrated can come across as being aggressive and rude. Its a job I wouldn't be able to do.
