The tax credits have gone in today so I've topped up the grocery, diesel and spending budgets a little to last until payday and transferred £164 to the house repairs pot. This would normally go as a mortgage overpayment but am trying not to be too :( about it.

House repairs: was: £4320 now: £4073.75 :((£246.25 saved)

I will aim to get it down into the £3k's by the end of the month, should be easily doable with payday just over a week away.

Here’s the mojito cake recipe for crazy cat lady and anyone else who’d like it:

    Mojito drizzle loaf cake

    2 limes
    175g butter
    3 eggs
    225g caster sugar
    10g desiccated coconut
    50ml white rum
10 mint leaves plus extra to decorate

    Preheat oven to 180c/gas 4. Grease & line a 21cm loaf tin.
Finely zest limes, then juice both.
Put butter, eggs, 175g of the caster sugar, flour, coconut & half the grated lime into a bowl. Whisk for 2-3 mins.
Spoon mixture into the loaf tin and bake for 25 mins. After this, Cover loosely with foil and bake for another 25 mins until golden.
Put lime juice, rum, mint, remaining zest & remaining 50g of caster sugar in a pan. Bubble for 3-4 minutes until syrupy.
!!!!! the top of the cake with a fork, drizzle over syrup and leave to cool completely in the tin.
    Top with extra mint leaves.

    Enjoy!

I’m home from work and the second load of washing is in the machine. I took all of OH’s bedding home the other day to do as he doesn’t have a dryer or much space to hang washing and the weather isn’t line-friendly at the moment.

First load has gone into the tumble dryer, hopefully I can leave the second lot to dry on the airier in the conservatory.

I have another cake in the oven a blackberry cake this time, made from a tub of stewed blackberries OH had taken out of the freezer to use up. I shall caramelise some apples that need using in the fruit bowl and pop those on the top too.

Dinner will be YS salmon from OH’s freezer with some cous cous stuffed peppers. I’m trying not to pick up any more groceries until absolutely essential.

Cake made, mixed result, but edible!

Feeling so close to tears tonight. I!!!8217;ve discovered another potential problem with my house which could be a huge issue. Only discovered when seeing the other side of my property from my neighbour!!!8217;s house. It!!!8217;s something which should have been picked up on the buildings survey I had done before buying it, but wasn!!!8217;t. I!!!8217;m guessing it!!!8217;s going to be near impossible to fight that two years down the line though.
Oh, and I possibly have rodents in the cavities of the house. Next door does and it!!!8217;s a semi.

Learnt today my Mum is being investigated for throat cancer on top of everything else too.

    I could really cry.

  • Deep breaths - lots of love to you :grouphug:
I am going to cross my fingers and hope for good news on every front. Maybe it won't be as bad as you're fearing. If you're anything like me, you'll automatically imagine the worst case scenario happening, and it's not always that bad.

Thank you for that recipe - it's much appreciated x
  • Thank you for the cake recipe, will have to try that this weekend!

Sorry to read about the continuing problems with the house. Is it worth getting rodent/pest control people in?

Thinking of you and your mum.

Thank you for the kind wishes crazy_cat_lady and Honeysucklelou2, it's much appreciated.

I didn't have the best night's sleep last night so am feeling tired and achey today. Think I might have a hot bath when I get home from work to try and soak away a bit of the tension.

I hit desperation last night and bought a couple of lottery tickets! :o I don't usually play it, but I do have an online account and the minimum you can deposit is £10, so that has been taken out of my spending money on YNAB. I'm looking forward to entering the million pounds back into YNAB I am going to win this weekend... :p:D

I've completed another survey this morning which has earnt me enough points for another £2 Amazon voucher, which I've requested.

I resisted the strong temptation to stop and buy myself breakfast from the bakery on the way to work this morning and had a sachet of porridge at my desk instead. Have only bought a work breakfast once this year so far, am quite proud of that, it's a vast improvement on last year. :o
I've brought eggs and some bread to make scrambled egg on toast for lunch and have a slice of yesterday's cake if I get peckish. :)

As for the 'ratties', I didn't hear anything last night and haven't in my house so far, so am desperately hoping they won't make it over. Really hope they disappear from next door too, I really feel for them. The neighbours, not the rats... :D

OH and I are going away tomorrow, nothing fancy - just a premier inn for a couple of nights near a nature reserve and a nice town with lots of architecture and places to walk round. We'll be packing up a picnic tonight to eat tomorrow lunchtime to save money. I'm looking forward to it, with both need a bit of a break.

Have a good day everyone x

  • Hope you have a good weekend and are able to relax away from the house worries.

Re the rodents, I remember seeing some years ago, a sonar repellent that was supposed to keep unwanted rodent visitors at bay. I'll see if I can remember where I saw it!
