Sorry to read about the newly discovered building work needed. Is there an option to go back, armed with the report and renegotiate based on what is needed to be done?
Hope the op goes as smoothly as possible for your dad. Thinking of you and sending virtual hugs.paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . Mortgage start £148k June 23 - now £138k.

Thanks everyone. I’ve left replying until I actually had something to say, I’ve really been feeling a bit beaten this past week.As I thought, the other house I mentioned in my last post turned out to be a non-starter. Turns out the guy was very keen to sell and start another renovation project, moving his young family into a building site, he had just failed to inform his heavily pregnant girlfriend of his intention to sell their lovely house from under her! 😮 He then wanted me to view it and agree to buy it from them (for top whack) when and if she agreed to sell somewhere later down the line. I think not. It was a shame though, I would have bought it in a shot.
I have just had the full survey back tonight on the house I am meant to be buying. It needs around £13K worth of work to the exterior. 😫 I spoke to two tradesmen yesterday about the main work needed and they are going to quote to do it and give me a timescale of when they could start. In the meantime, I will be speaking to the estate agent tomorrow about renegotiating the price as the mortgage valuation has also come in at £11k less than the asking price I have agreed to pay for it, plus there is the work needed in the survey before I even think about renovating the bathroom (which is needed) and the other more minor work that is required.Fingers crossed they agree to drop the price quite substantially otherwise I will probably have to walk away. 😔I have made some progress on clearing ‘stuff.’ OH and I took a car load to the tip at the weekend and today I delivered 10 (yes, ten!) bin bags full of clothes, toys, books and household items I’ve been sorting over the past few months to the charity shop. I was so pleased to have ticked that job off the list.I made sure I had a last run around the house before I left and filled a whole bag with clothes DS has grown out of recently, some of my clothes and some toys and books no longer played with or read.Talking of clothes and DS, the two new coats I ordered for him arrived (think I mentioned his last coat had an ‘accident’ and tore). One fits lovely now, the other is too big but I will keep it for him to grow into.On Thursday I’m planning on picking him up some more jogging bottoms, socks, pyjamas and possibly a hoodie or two if I see them reasonably priced in Primarni, as he has grown out of so much stuff lately that the new clothes I’d bought recently don’t fit! 😫 No chance of his father contributing, I don’t bother asking these days, much easier to just rely on myself. He continues to send DS back in clothes that are too small or beyond repair too which I just throw away or put in the charity pile if they are in good enough condition. DS deserves better.Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to return with some good news about a price reduction on the house. I don’t like asking people for anything, but I’d really appreciate some finger crossing if you’re able to!Goodnight all.XxMortgage @ 03/2019: £125,000, Now: £51,956.86
