The replacement item of jewellery I’d bought myself due to the first being awful never showed up (in fact it was never sent!) so the seller has refunded. That’s it now, I’m taking both shopping disasters as a sign I’m not meant to wear a ring, so I’m not buying another! This one be £27.95 refunded to the credit card, the refund for the first dodgy one will be £24 back in the bank account when that seller refunds. I know it wasn’t essential, but I have wanted one for some time as I do miss wearing my wedding/engagement ring and still find myself subconsciously looking for it on my finger at times. 🥺 I was hoping to replace it with something that signified a new start and positivity when I looked at it as no-one else in my life (ie. OH) is ever doing to buy me one, 😞 but that didn’t exactly go well did it, so I give up! I need the money more now anyway.

Another item has received a bid on eBay for £7.50. I doubt it will go up any further, but that is better than giving it away. The auction doesn’t end til next week though so fingers crossed it may receive another bid or two.

  • Just wanted to send you a load of love. You sound so down at the moment that I just wish I could give you a massive cuddle. You remind me a lot of myself, except I'm exceptionally lucky with my housing situation. When I first booted my ex out I went on a bit of a spending spree and bought myself a ring to replace my wedding and engagement rings - it was over £300 but I still love it and never take it off. It was a real spur of the moment purchase but I don't regret it now - almost 3 years down the line.

Thank you CCL, the kindness in your post brought tears to my eyes and a massive cuddle sounds like all I want at the moment, that and a little bit of luck for things to go right for a change. :( I am feeling incredibly down in the dumps with life at the moment and it's dragging on, I really can't seem to shake it off like I normally do. Not depressed as such, just a real lack of enthusiasm for anything, I'm really close to tears most of the time and I can't see better times ahead. I'm aware that I've been shutting myself off from people a bit too which isn't good for me but all I feel like doing is retreating back into my shell.
I think a lot of people are feeling like that atm though and so many people have been through so much more than I have so I have no real right to feel miserable about everything.

Yes CCL, I think you and I are much alike and would be great at putting the World to rights in RL! I'll bring the cake, you bring the gin!
I thought I was being a bit wasteful and daft about the ring thing tbh, so I'm glad you did the same too, maybe it wasn't such a daft idea after all. A friend of mine in a similar situation plans to do the same too (although she plans on REALLY splashing out and has given herself a budget of £1K!  :o - beats my £30!  :D ). Trouble is I have really fat fingers, like the rest of me  :( , so find it hard to find things to fit and am not really a jewellery person in general, so I don't know where to start. Anyway, I've given up now, it wasn't meant to be and I don't have the money spare anyway.

It was DS's birthday recently, we obviously couldn't do much but I tried to make it fun and special for him which is sometimes difficult when there's just us two. I feel guilty about that. I wish I could give him the big happy family life.
He was with his Dad for the first part of the day and I was shocked when DS told me that the 3 kids and Mum of this 'step' family his Dad is involved with didn't even bother getting out of bed for long to spend with DS on his birthday. By 9am the kids had all gone back to bed leaving DS on his own with his Dad who was working and only the two of them having a birthday breakfast together. I'm not talking teens here, but all under 12s. I find that so strange and consider it quite rude tbh, there is no way my child would be allowed to do that on someone else's birthday, he wouldn't anyway, he'd be too excited! Mind you, these kids are ones who always get gifts on other people's birthdays so they don't feel 'left out.'  :| They do seem to be rather lazy and it's not discouraged by the mother either. DS was 'allowed' to bring back only a piece of icing from his birthday cake there too... of course I'd made him one anyway, but still...
Anyway, DS wanted pizza of the delivery kind for a birthday treat. it's not something I've purchased for years, in fact I probably only have a takeaway once or twice a year now, but I didn't mind as it's his birthday. I managed to find a voucher code, but it still came to £25 just for two medium pizzas and a dip, quite shocking really! It has done us for two meals though as we warmed up leftovers for lunch today. :)  I hate to pay for it with the credit card as the bank account is very low, but the refund on one of the rings paid for that. The refund on the first ring has finally been issued today, so that's an extra £24 back in the bank account soon which will really help at the moment. I had to transfer £50 from the gifts pot yesterday to top up the grocery account. Roll on payday. :(

Forgot to mention, another item sold on ebay for £20, so the amount after fees has been transferred to the bank account. These little bits and pieces are definitely helping to trickle bits of money in now and then.

  • That pizza was such a special treat for him, that is what he will remember from this birthday, the fact that Mom ordered a pizza delivery and made him a special cake and spent precious time with him.
So many of us are struggling, my motivation has up and gone but once spring is here we will start to feel much better.
Please don't doubt yourself you are an amazing Mom, sending you lots of hugsx
  • We will be having a pizza delivery for a birthday boy here tomorrow too. We do tend to get pizza delivery once every two months or so, but it is still a rare treat. It's what the birthday boy wants.

    Another day of bad news.
This morning I was told my lovely colleague has cancer, this afternoon I found out my Dad’s cancer has spread to his remaining kidney. They are going to try and operate, but it sounds like options are limited. Tests on the kidney he had removed have now confirmed that it’s hereditary, so some specialist hereditary diseases team will be getting involved. My sister is also suffering with several health problems atm that they can’t seem to get under control.
I feel like I’ve had the air knocked out of me and like my world is caving in.
The only saving grace for today has been laughing hard whilst playing with DS. He’s gone off to his Dad’s now, who stood there with a sour look on his face at me and DS giggling about the fun game we had been playing. Miserable s0d.
Life is just throwing blow after blow at us, I’m not sure how much more any of us can take.

All the more reason when most things aren't good to enjoy all the good moments you can.  You must remember that as a mother no longer with the father that it is your role to play the bad guy, whilst Dad lets the child eat McDs 3 times a week & watch hours of TV etc a night.  No wonder he looked sour!  He can't beat the giggles you shared.
  • Sending hugs MeandO. So sorry to read about your dad and your colleague.
