Not really. They have a long and colourful history of 'killing' devices when they fancy it. They're not as bad for it these days to be fair.
again dramatic!
You paint a colourful picture of them showing no mercy to their customers and killing devices whenever they feel like it.
God knows how they survive as a company based on such a view point. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

It's a valid question that has been discussed many times....

All companies whether its Apple, Samsung, Microsoft or even Tesco are here to give a service or product that they think customers will want and if lucky get those customers to come back again and again.
Do they make bad decisions yes but overall they give a service or product that brings pleasure to those people who are free to part with their hard earn cash as they see fit with those companies. Companies that do not give a service or a product that people want go out of business.
Based on your two posts Apple would not be around as a company as customers being at the mercy of a company killing their devices whenever they fancy it would not buy their products, hence I'm calling your posts over dramatic.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and just say that maybe they make products and software that is of a good standard that some people get pleasure from them, Just like the other companies I mentioned.
But hey maybe I will be proven wrong (though been waiting since 2003 when ipod was out in the wild) and somewhere there will be a smoking gun that will prove that all along Apple as a whole is just a company that rips off people by deliberately making crappy products and services and killing devices when they see fit and finally they go out of business. When that happens I will buy you a virtual  and say that your right.

Don't know how to answer that last sentence of yours as it has no relevance to our discussion. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Don't think anyone is saying Apple products are crap just that they are overpriced. The near us300 BILLION cash mountain they are sitting on is evidence of that"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

I’m sorry when some people beat this drum of planned obsolescence, at the mercy and deliberately killing devices when they fancy it says to me it’s a crap device.
But again it boils down to a company selling something that someone wants to buy with their money. If we are now going to say that because Apple makes so much profit is because their products are overpriced then let the market decide that. This arguement that Apple is too expensive has been used for decades but yet they still have customers from all walks of life buying their products.
Something that is overpriced to one person might be good value to someone else or even cheap. Price is not the sole driver of people’s buying decisions but instead various factors.
If someone does not want to buy a product because it’s not in their price bracket or indeed allows them to do certain things with that product then they should not buy that product period but instead purchase something else from another company.
It is not a company’s job to cater for everyone’s idea of what a product should be or should be priced. Instead they should have a vision of what they want to make and who they want to make it for and deliver the best possible product/service that will generate profits that will continue to keep the company going forward for as many decades as possible. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Tablet manufacturer preferences are similar to cars, TVs and every consumer product. Some people like to buy what they perceive as 'the best' for their use. Some like to buy a less expensive product which they perceive to be just as useful and functional. It's a matter of personal choice, allied to what the consumer can realistically afford. The real danger is that some buy what they cannot realistically afford.
I don't see any need to "take sides" on the issue: if you are happy with whatever you have, fair enough. What is the point of praising your own choice, or demeaning anyone else's choice?
I have a 4 year old Hudl2 which still works perfectly, because I have Factory reset it and reinstalled everything from my Google account. I have a 2 year old Lenovo Tab3-8, which also works perfectly. Both are linked to this desktop PC and my Android phone, via my Google account. Neither the Hudl nor the Lenovo were expensive and I could afford an iPad as well as an iPhone, but I see no real need for them. That does not mean that I would sneer at someone else's choice of device, because I just don't care what anyone else has.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

you are not comparing apples with apples
But I am sharing my personal experience.
Android device was £164 sorry I can't remember the brand. Paid £250 brand new for the iPad, a colleague had a load as incentives for selling flooring so was doing them cheap.0 -
I'm now lead to believe there's different types of Chromebook? I told my wife the feedback on the Chromebook was good - she questioned whether i'd specified it's the one where it's the touchscreen one with the keyboard.
I wasn't aware there's different types.
On the topic of fanboys too - i agree. I personally am not loyal to any manufacturer. My wife has had Android and Apple tablets and phones. I have only had Apple phones but i'm fairly sure my next one (whenever my iPhone 6S dies) will be an Android.0 -

The stupid thing is, I never actually said Apple make bad products. They don't. I never said they did. I just said that you're somewhat at their mercy as its a closed ecosystem. Remember power pc? They killed that ruthlessly and people had been buying them till only a few months before. Lots of angry customers. 32bit OSX support as well, another thing they dropped support for leaving customers in the lurch.0 -

It’s called pushing the platform forward and the company forward. Leaving old hardware or code behind helps a company focus on what they see as the future and not have hands tied supporting old stuff. All companies do it to some degree and how much they do it will depend on their customer base and the companies vision.
When companies decide to do this they’re taking a high risk that they will make customers unhappy to the point that the customer will not buy from them again. Or they will create something that customers will buy to get pleasure from.
I get it why some people will not buy Apple products based on their prices, not supporting old technology and no longer making certain types of products. However to others this is not a major issue and for them Apple gives them something that they want.
However how you describe the picture is being over dramatic. If I felt for a moment I was at the mercy of a company who would kill my device whenever they fancy it and leave me in the lurch I would not buy from them because to me that’s a crap product.
What’s important is the individual has to know what they want in features and price before buying anything. If that company can’t deliver what they want then buy it elsewhere or buy the nearest thing to it and get on with enjoying it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
