Tablet lifespan?

I have older tablets working fine. In fact tablets over 4 years old working fine.
Battery really depends on how you treat it. Modern batteries like to be around 60-80%. Letting them completely run down it really bad. As is charging constantly. But batteries have a limited life and it really depends how much it is used! They of course can be changed though with sealed units it is harder.
As for laggy. Well that's what you install (including OS updates). Sometimes a complete reset is a good thing (and say no to restore apps and just put on what you need).0 -
I've just picked one up for £30, with mini-HDMI output on it (for streaming to the tv), and it's grand and will probably do what I want it to do for a couple or more years, so yes, it can be done, just avoid over-priced brand-names
...and the cost of android tabs has come down a lot in the last couple of years, so even easier to do now
Thats the trick or should I say is the common sense approach is to buy something that fits your needs and not something that you think will fit your needs. More power to yourself for finding that :T
Personally I'll stick to tablets over laptops and with Apple over others simply because i know what I need and the experiences I have had with both. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Have you tried doing a factory reset on the tablet? Like computers they build up a load of crap over time and benefit from a wipe. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

My 2010 iPad 1 still works. Though stuck in iOS 4.3.
My 2013 Samsung Galaxy Tab still works reasonably well.
Sometimes if you compare performance against newest tablets, those may appear laggy but in their own right, often it just works for 5-7 years easily.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -
2013 original iPad Mini still going strong as is 2014 Nexus 9. Neither can run latest OS but I can live with that for what I use them for.0

2012 Samsung Note 10.1 no problems .
But every year or so it gets a full wipe and reinstall of the OS .0 -
This always helps Android's go for a bit longer.
iPads are at the mercy of the big fruit co.

Mines pretty much the same.
Galaxy Note 10.1 purchased in October 2013 and still going well.
I use it on long flights to watch films and with the screen brightness turned down a bit I have no problem using it for 6 or 7 hours.0
