If you don't want to donate, or don't agree with donating, that's absolutely fine, no-one is pressurising anyone to do so.

This thread was started purely because some people wanted to help in some way, and wanted to explore the possibilities. But it wont be what everyone wants - we're all different people with different viewpoints.

We all know Martin isn't just a saint who writes books and runs websites purely out of the kindness of his heart - if he's a millionaire or not really isn't our business, but frankly, if he is, good on him, he deserves to be.

Let's please not let this thread, that started with such kind thoughts and good intentions, turn into a slanging match.

Instead of charging to join the site, why not think up some "extras" - premium membership package - that people may be willing to pay a small additional sum for.

That way everyone still gets to use the site for free.
Those that need to use the site and can't afford a fee aren't penalized in any way.
Those who want to "donate" money can do so and maybe get some "extra features" in return????

Hmmmmmmm, I'm thinking about this, trying to think of somthing logical to say....

My instincts say what a nice idea and anyone who wants to do something should do...

but my logical head says, there will be insurances to cover this kind of thing from a business financial point of view?

I for one really really missed the site but by the very nature of needing to be here, making charitable donations seems to go against the grain... One of the first things to go on a SOA is charities...

    Ho hum!
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....

I think I read somewhere that they weren't insured against this sort of thing....although I can't remember where I read it, so I'm not sure if it's true or if it was just speculation.

IA - it was in my last paragraph, I've corrected it on mine but it's still there on YM's quote.......don't shoot!! :rotfl:
