Right then.
I do not agree with donating. What if you donate to make MSE safe and then it crashes again. I owe this site a lot but i feel that asking people to donate who may be unable to just for the sake of donating and not to seem mean is not fair. Why not just charge £1 to join ???. One thing i have realised that my real life is outside of here. I have had great advice and I appreciate that but this is my virtual world. It not real on here and you can spend to much time on here instead of dealing with the things that are important in the real world.
Puts crash hat on

Why not just start a thread then? 'Thankyou to the board people'. I'm sure this will mean more to them than the money.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

In MSE’s absence, I too had considered this. Having “bullet-proof” hosting is not something you can really apply money-saving principles too; it’s just expensive. The reason I’d considered donations is because increased costs mean that something has to give, and I wouldn’t like to see the MSE Charity Fund losing out. In that respect, I’d considered that forum members could donate directly to the charity, effectively freeing up money for Martin S Lewis Ltd. I was reminded of the website that took donations for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Charity, following Richard Hammond’s close encounter with the grass at RAF Elvington – Justgiving. In this case though, the money would have to come in year after year, as the cost will be ongoing.
However, and this is a big however, I’m not sure how sympathetic we need to be. I’ve looked at the How this site is financed page. As £100,000 was transferred to the charity for the year 2006-2007, I’d have to assume that Martin’s income from the site is more than that, even after tax. Probably considerably more. Martin states that a “very substantial part” of his income comes from the site, and that he’d like to become a billionaire. I’d infer from that that the site has already made him a millionaire.
Yep, i kinda agree. I dont think he would accept any money, its a nice idea - but how much did this attack cost? And how much does he make from this site?
As for recognition?? Dont they get paid??0 -
