    Was the site off then?

I'm afraid I won't be donating anything. I think Martin makes off of us as we write most of the material for his books and TV apprearances.

Me too. This site has not only saved me £££ it's actually helped me make £££. I would be more than happy to pay it forward and help with the site's running costs.

In MSE’s absence, I too had considered this. Having “bullet-proof” hosting is not something you can really apply money-saving principles too; it’s just expensive. The reason I’d considered donations is because increased costs mean that something has to give, and I wouldn’t like to see the MSE Charity Fund losing out. In that respect, I’d considered that forum members could donate directly to the charity, effectively freeing up money for Martin S Lewis Ltd. I was reminded of the website that took donations for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Charity, following Richard Hammond’s close encounter with the grass at RAF Elvington – Justgiving. In this case though, the money would have to come in year after year, as the cost will be ongoing.

However, and this is a big however, I’m not sure how sympathetic we need to be. I’ve looked at the How this site is financed page. As £100,000 was transferred to the charity for the year 2006-2007, I’d have to assume that Martin’s income from the site is more than that, even after tax. Probably considerably more. Martin states that a “very substantial part” of his income comes from the site, and that he’d like to become a billionaire. I’d infer from that that the site has already made him a millionaire.

The site was off for nearly 4 days B_S. There has been a malicious attack and Martin and his team have worked solidly all weekend trying to stop it and prevent the site from going down the pan altogether.

  • that may be the case for you b_S but for a lot of us the site is more than just 'a site' and personally I don't care if martin does make money out of it. Him and his team at least deserve some kind of recognition for their efforts over the weekend. Even if we do only raise them enough to buy a pint each.

I'm sure we could all live without it, and I'm sure Martin does well, but he does a lot for us (articles, letter templates etc) which means the members of this forum make, save and are reimbursed hundreds, often thousands of pounds.

Considering this year alone I've made a good £1000 in Pigsback and free bingo, had £100s of mobile phones & clothes for half price and less, and had friends reclaim thousands of pounds from their banks enabling them to buy houses, all thanks to this site, I think £5 is worth it.

I agree IA. I really depend on this site and know I would be in a much worse position without it in my life. I would donate £5 too - we pay that much a year for quidco membership, so it's a small price to pay for this site!
