I'm not fussed about potatoes, so someone can have my share. TBH there are always alternatives, we just have to get creative. The issue is when there are shortages of everything, all the prices will go up.8

I'm off to Asda today to invest in long-date, dry goods for storing while they are available - and affordable. I'm already arranging for a small chest freezer for my shed (for batch cooking, veg, bread & flour) so my fridge freezer can be used for fish & meat (and a little bit of ice cream!)
Question - is the Lidl vac-sealer a worthwhile buy? Its £20 but no point if it isn't up to the job...2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

I always read but hardly post. I had quite a few stocks but had to use some up recently. People laugh at my stocks and mock me . Do you really think there will be a shortage? For a long time? I can see prices have already creeped up , garlic was 16p and now it is 25p- 9p increase just on one item!7

I think vac sealers can be useful. We used to have a large one whose name I can't recall which was fastened to the wall and. Sealed large bags of kitchen rubbish. I occasionally used it for sealing plastic bags Of home grown veg like beans for the freezer which was good as I could flatten them out rather than having to scrunch them up and seal with some kind of clip, which took less freezer space.
these days I wash, dry and reuse as many plastic food container bags as I can to avoid plastic waste and a vac sealer ruins them so it has negative as well as positive points.5 -
The sealer is OK, you need to keep the heating blades clean or you will not get a proper seal.£71.93/ £180.005

I got one several months ago, only used it for stuff that isnt liquid so far [ like salami, sliced beef, parmesan] and it works as it should.

I bought one from Aldi several months ago, we use it quite often, great for splitting larger packs of things for the fridge or freezer, I just cater for OH and myself and less often used things like cooked meats, chicken portions, cheese bought especially for a recipe, my HM GF bread sealed in packs small enough for 1 breakfast etc. As already said the flat packages make freezer storage less bulky. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. Sorting your freezer drawers/areas - how do folks go about making it easier to find what you want quickly? For example, I have a meat drawer, in it are bags of chicken thighs, pork loin, chicken breasts, various types of sausages etc. Sometimes I have to rummage for ages trying to find a particular thing. I decided in the end to get coloured clips for bags and colour code them, so blue became pork loin, pink is chicken breasts, etc. I am still not certain it's the best system! What systems (if any) do you folk use?
