Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -
I wondered about rounding up my passport-owning sons & taking them on a day trip to France before it all gets more complicated, but need to squirrel the money to replace the car, which is definitely happening in March when it comprehensively fails its MOT.
Politicians may have changes of mind but legislation is pretty robust on substantial dents. It still starts stops & steers, just its legitimate days are numbered.
A pity as I'd have liked to see the Carrefour & all the other Calais excitements (if we'd had even more money & energy I'd have hauled them to Paris) but I have my memories & they have their lives to lead.0 -
I hate to scare, but while we're all concentrating on food, meds & toilet roll, wasn't car parts high on the list of Stuff Of Which Supply Could Be Disrupted ?
Meanwhile in regard to flatbreads, I found a recipe in the Waitrose magazine today and fancy giving it a try with crushed fennel & lovage seeds from the garden

Perhaps we should make a list of things we think it might be worth buying in, things that need checking or servicing, things that might become either too expensive to consider buying on our income or scarce enough that it would be worth buying a new one now? We will definitely be going through waterproofs, boots, thick socks etc. to make sure they are still fit for purpose and if they're not get another one in the sales if possible. Being warm and dry is one of the things we value most in life.0

Flatbreads have become a staple here, except I make mine with soya yoghurt so to know I can make them with oil is valuable information.
I'm guessing that store cupboard critters would be interested in gluten free flour also? Mine contains rice, potato, tapioca, maize & buckwheat. I just know the answer is going to be yes with capitals but worth asking anyway.0 -
Sadly store cupboard critters are interested in ALL dry goods no matter what they're made from.
Flatbreads like chapattis can be made with just flour and water and I can't taste any difference in leaving out the yoghurt/oil when I make them. The texture is very slightly 'tighter' without the extra ingredient but they are still perfectly nice to eat.0 -

Much appreciated, as always. Thank you.
There's no wastage with them is there? We're preferring them as I can make what I need, quickly. I was discarding to many bread ends that weren't really an end at all.0 -
If I have 'bread ends' I save them all in the freezer until I have enough to make an old fashioned (but highly delicious) bread pudding which gives us cake for a week and cuts all the waste out.0

Bread ends here go to the crows or get roughly cubed and frozen for croutons

We save ours too, sprinkle with oil and finely chopped garlic and bake for savoury croutons. Great with home made soup .0
