I think this quote covers it all, whether its Brexit or any other matter.
"You can please some of the people some of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time.""When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us" Alexander Graham Bell0 -
Nicely put AofDIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

No wonder people are grumpy about the whole thing and very worried about what life will hold afterwards. Usually the reality is that the news is dealable with and the reality is nowhere near as bad as your imagination was telling you it would be. Tempers fray in this interminable heat anyway but add in the stresses of Brexit and having voted remain only to be unsuccessful in what you thought was the only viable decision on the referendum and I can readily understand the raised blood pressure in the posts.
We will make it a good life here whatever happens it's just what UK citizens are best at, the hurt and sense of injustice will fade and we'll ALL build a future that will be good and direct it the way that is best for the nation.
I've just had to smile, reading the Grandma's Larder thread and seeing them talk about marble shelves, keeping the milk cool in a bucket of cold water on the floor and having a meat safe all of which I remember in my childhood and the reaction to my poor old Bramble tea! life goes in circles and what brings ridicule today is usually tomorrows useful 'new' tip! Life's a funny old affair isn't it?moneyistooshorttomention wrote: »Not similar scenarios imo.
We are talking about moral issues there. I've got the "standard" opinion on fox hunting and bull fighting (ie against both) and pretty neutral on hanging (though probably veering towards "If they've done the crime then.....#shrugs").
Moral issues are a totally different kettle of fish to whether we are or aren't in the EU.
The waiting is awful though, and 2 years later, I've nearly lost a couple of friends who were/are strong leavers and share some (in my opinion) outrageous posts from Facebook sites with links to the American alt-right ('libtards' being their favourite phrase - other users of the pages, not my friends), but they themselves are lovely people whose friendship I value, and I know we get into confirmation bubbles in social media, and it's not worth falling out, life goes on, que sera sera!0 -
One could then say that it's a moral issue whether "Any Tom/!!!!/Harry etc" should be entitled to come into our country whether we like it or no - and I would say "No, it isnt - it is OUR country and our Welfare State (what's left of it) - so WE decide".0

Well said.
I keep a well stocked cupboard anyway and two packed freezers. Also a garden full of veg and fruit and a few apple trees. More to do with the weather in the winter and being so far from the shops and I don't drive than anything else0 -
Que Sera indeed.
Can't we please just forget the politics and keep this thread for its intended purpose.
Can't we just share advice and information and leave the political infighting at the door.0 -

Read that. And let's stop acting like the govt and start acting like preppers and DO SOMETHING instead of bickering.0 -

I agree.
Actually i don't think food rationing is a bad idea in principle. if some things are in short supply and prices rise, then it helps those who are less well off (which, obviously was the idea in the first place). As long as it is managed correctly - and there's the rub
One, probably scaremongering, story i read today was that there would be a shortage of butter, cheese and yogurt. i actually thought our dairy industry was ok (albeit that the farmers are not always paid well).I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

MAR can you give us a resume of the article from the paper it won't let me read it. Food rationing would mean equal shares in a fair way to ensure we all were fed. There is much that can be some to add to this if you have a garden or allotment and as many other folks have said in past posts even if you only have a balcony or wide windowsills in a flat you can still grow some food. If it had the same effect as last time rationing was enforced but for very different reasons nowadays it might just be the thing that gives us back our health as a nation and reduces the burden on the NHS to a point where it can actually function as it's meant to. So to echo MAR do something don't just bicker act!0
